My ancestor who fought in the 28th Wisconsin, died like 4 months after Volunteering in 1864. He had a wife and 3 small children at home, i always wondered why he chose to volunteer for the war even though he was not conscripted. I think at the time the war had gone on for 3 years already, and he probably thought enough was enough, put an end to the war.
