I respect the institution of the teacher. Thank you teachers. BUT almost out of nowhere my FB feed is blowing up with teachers losing their shit about the schools re-opening in the fall. When the lockdowns first happened, all I saw were posts about how concerned they were for the well-being of their students, that they weren’t getting the socialization that they needed, etc.

Now all I see is “Trump and the parents want me to die from Covid”. It is unreal. As a parent, obviously I don’t want my teachers to get sick but we can reopen the schools safely. I have never seen so many angry teachers, screaming about how they shouldn’t have to go back to work. Meanwhile our children are regressing and craving the socialization they need. It’s as if some unseen force told these teachers to now get upset, when for months they didn’t talk about this. I do not understand. Are the teachers unions pumping out memes triggered by Trump’s push for schools to reopen?

Fair enough, I don't want to pay their salaries anymore.

If they are not in their class rooms at start of the school year than terminate them immediately. Their are enough parents and Grand parents that would be happy to fill in and teach the kids the actuall truth instead of the fairy bull shit these.retards spout they can learn how there are 2 genders and if your born male you will die a male vice versa female.

They just want a guaranteed income and benefits without going to work. I think Bernie Sanders’ has a plan ...everyone receives $2000 monthly. That won’t pay mortgage, health care and child care!🇺🇸 💥MAGA 2020💥

seems like the closed educational system is providing the recruits to protest, riot, and form the army against Trump and the Nation. If they're not in school ,maybe they can fill out mail in ballots ... Hmmmmmm??? just a thought.

As a teacher, I’m more than willing to go back. However, if it’s just to get the economy going and the he risk is too great, then Governors need to be responsible and make solid decisions. They shut our school system down when we had a total of 14 cases. Currently we have over 80.

Mitigations are being out in place, but you can only mitigate so much. Teachers are feeling like they are being used as pawns, without regard for our safety. We are being told that we will have all the supplies we need, but that has never been the case, so teachers are skeptical.

In Texas, the Education Agency is saying we WILL start with in-person classes, yet they have been working from home the whole time, and have no plan as to when they MIGHT start working in offices again. That doesn’t seem right.

Edit: In addition, we are being asked to plan for in-class AND online instruction but no increase in pay for about 40% more work and about 14 hours a day.

I can understand these frustrations. In Pennsylvania the different schools have been rolling out their plans recently. Lots of different measures to mitigate the spread. But daycares have already opened and I didn’t hear anything to challenge that. They are also mitigating the best they can. I just don’t understand how almost overnight so many teachers can be vocally against reopening the schools. Not one that I know mentioned this during the last few months, but it had to be a possibility right? State and local governments should take the time and resources necessary to make it as safe as possible. That’s what I’ve seen in PA so far. But this all of a sudden outlash against the federal government is confusing.

I understand your confusion. We have been expecting education to put out their guidance, but they choose strict mandates when the number of cases is increasing so fast. Many teachers fall into the vulnerable categories and are being told they will have what they need, when we have had to buy our own supplies for years.

My district has a good plan and I feel sufficient to keep students and staff safe.

I watch the cases continue to rise and though the death rate is continuing to diminish, I am still wondering if they are going to have to come back and change things again.

It’s all about the timing, and teachers can’t seem to make sense or logic out of the insistence of being back in classes when we are also told not to have more than X people in one place at a time and the numbers seem to be skyrocketing.

Excuse me? First of all we are paid on 10 month contracts that are paid equally over 12 months. Second, when schools were shut down we continued to provide lessons, mentoring, and teaching from an online platform. Generally speaking, I worked about 10 hours daily with extra work beyond that to make sure my students were taken care of. If anything, I was disappointed in the number of parents that wouldn’t talk to their kids about what was going on, and they turned to me. I never turned a kid down, and was honest about it.

The dominos are falling into play. Robotic AI will phase out more and more jobs. Cops will be an easy choice. "A robot cannot be racist". Teachers could easily be replaced by a chromebook. Each student sees a customized head that they learn from best. Next you will hear truckers complaining again.

The kids aren’t getting COVID, and “muh science and muh data” show they’re not passing it around either. If teachers are scared, take a leave of absence or quit.

Change my mind: Teachers achieve (and/or revert to) an emotional maturity two grade levels above their average students.
