I don’t understand the pridefulness of this anti-mask position guys. Masks are meant to protect other people during this time, not just yourselves. This is a moment when we should be leading the country back to greatness. Part of that includes assuring our fellow citizens that we care about their health (and the health of their older loved ones), so they feel safe enough to re-engage in day-to-day life.
This obstinate refusal to wear masks sends the wrong message. Not only is it childish, but it strikes me as defeatist, as if you’ve given up trying to fight this novel coronavirus — and it is novel; it is not influenza or the ordinary coronaviruses that cause colds, because it enters the cells in a completely new way via ACE2 — and because you’ve given up, you want to bluster your way to believing it’s harmless.
Now, you guys may be right. I HOPE you’re right. But if you’re not, there’s going to be a lot of suffering in this country, and it’s going to put an end to all we’ve accomplished so far. What happens when flu season starts up again, and we see co-infections of influenza and covid-19? I don’t think it’ll be pretty.
Take the lead in caring for our fellow citizens. This is a precarious time. People are being led in all sorts of directions to destroy the foundations of this country. We are at the brink of a maoist cultural revolution.
Wear a mask in public and do it gladly. Take care of your neighbors and your communities. Embody the fundamental virtues that make America great. Yes, we are free— just keep in mind that all our cherished rights empower us to do good. That is liberty’s purest and highest expression. And when America is good, she is Great.
Nobody is saying you can't wear a mask, nobody is saying you have to leave your house if you're afraid.
It's mind boggling that You (and those imposing Mandatory anything) can't grasp that you can't force SOMEONE ELSE to do/wear/say something to coddle your own fears. If you could - I'd be able to force the D politician in my area to wear a clown suit and refer to me by my correct Apache pronouns.
This is tyranny and being a part of the compliance squad is cuckery not bravery.
Listening to the MSM fearmongering and repeating it verbatim isn't brave.
I am not personally afraid of covid-19. I, like many others here, have lost a lot of faith in our institutions, especially the legacy media. But this does not change the fact that the whole world has been dealing with this disease for a months, and where I live the hospitals are filling up again.
Even if death counts remain the same or trends downward, this is still requiring a substantial fraction of the infected to be hospitalized or be taken out of commission for weeks. If this disease becomes endemic we will be living and dealing with that every year, on top of all the endemic diseases we’re used to, until there is a vaccine. (It’s now questionable how long antibodies will persist in our bodies— it could be as little as a couple months.)
What happens to the economy if an additional 5% (say) of the working population has to call out sick for 8 weeks every year? Nothing good. Countries who control this disease will have a competitive and comparative advantage over countries that don’t. We, of all people, should be leading the world— or at least our country— in adapting to this challenge and fighting it.
Masks look like part of the solution to me. It looks like the main benefit to wearing a mask is to reduce the chance of outward spread, i.e. from you to the world. A person working at a supermarket has no idea if any of the hundreds or thousands of customers she meets every day is sick or not. Her mask might protect her a little, but our masks will protect her a lot.
I live in Canada. Every year the temperature drops. People catch colds, and pneumonia. Every year 5000, per province, die of Alzheimers alone. Add the other reasons people die and you have enough proof nobody gives a real fuck about anything. They never shut down the economy for the AIDS pandemic - nor the Cancer problem, nor the autism problem, nor the TDS problem ;)
This is no different. If you live in Florida, the chances are high that you'll be fine because the virus cannot survive on inanimate objects in the sun. If people wash their hands after taking a piss/shit, and they generally use common sense (e.g. If you're sweating profusely, can't breathe, cough blood etc).. stay home. You're sick, everyone else will be fine.
The lunacy isn't about how to deal with this as a legitimate virus - its about whether we're dealing with a legitimate virus (and I'm talking AT LEAST as bad as the year influenza viruses), and whether the actions taken now have any result. I would be fully onboard the mask train IF I had seen even one person drop dead on the sidewalk. It didn't happen. I didn't lockdown - I was out and about every single day between March 15th and now. Not in some isolated small town - I'm in the capital. This whole thing is a political farce.
Wearing masks in the middle of the summer, at the apex of the time between Cold seasons, is Lunacy and supreme stupidity. This would be the perfect time to find that 'herd immunity' but instead we're isolating and incubating so we can make it back to Nov/Dec and they can have their desired second wave.
Herd immunity is not guaranteed. It assumes people will have antibodies that persist for many years and it is not clear that’s actually the case. We all hope it is but if not, we are blinding ourselves to a huge downside risk.
Imagine a bad cold/flu season in combination with a bad covid-19 season. That’s going to have a real negative impact on society.
Let’s be part of the solution. Let’s keep our respective countrymen safe so we can all continue to live in a functioning society.
This is what I don't get: why are you so aggressive and insulting? If we wear masks we're "afraid", we're cucks. Nobody here is insulting you for not wearing one...the MSM and lefties maybe, but not the guy above. Not me.
I support you not wearing a mask 100%. Why can't you support those of us who think that we may help prevent the spread to someone immune-compromised, even if it's a small chance? Why (like this graphic) are we ridiculed as pussies? Why is it so binary?
Stop listening to everything you're TOLD to do, and do the things you know you should be doing. This doesn't just apply to masks, it applies to life.
I'm not calling 'you' a cuck, and much like a woman can be acting like a bitch and not BE a bitch, some here are acting like cucks. Maybe they aren't cucks.. I'll gladly apologize if you think I was referring to you.
My full force and the hill I'm willing to die on is that I cannot be forced to wear something. I'm 100% okay with you wearing a mask. I have never once told people they can't/shouldn't wear a mask if it benefits them...
My point is and always has been, this has nothing to do with Covid and public safety and has everything to do with politics and conditioning.
If you're not willing to stand up for yourself on masks, when will do? when it's mandated you castrate yourself? Might seem 'ridiculous' they'd never ask you to do that.. but when people like Me who see it coming are gone and taken out back and shot... you'll be peer pressured to cut off your own dick and balls.
"First they came ..." is the poetic form of a prose post-war confession first made in German in 1946 by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). It is about the cowardice of German intellectuals and certain clergy (including, by his own admission, Niemöller himself) following the Nazis' rise to power and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets, group after group. Many variations and adaptations in the spirit of the original have been published in the English language. It deals with themes of persecution, guilt, repentance, and responsibility.
I'm not listening to what I'm being told to do. I have an advanced degree and have weighed the facts as I see them and decided that although small, wearing a mask is something I'm willing to do. It may or may NOT help, but in this case I'm willing to make the small effort on the off-chance I may help someone. I'd never even know if I did, but that's ok with me.
I'm willing to stand up for myself for quite a bit. Saying yes to the mask doesn't mean that my hands go up in surrender and I give in everywhere else...that's silly. A mask is not even a molehill, let alone a hill to die on.
Don't wear a mask, I don't judge you in the least, but the overall attitude on TD towards those of us who do wear it is perplexing.
I agree with you. I don't mind wearing it, I don't care if these guys choose not to wear it but the childish obstinacy is not helpful. Calling us cucks and pussies for choosing to wear a mask is pathetic.
Thanks man. We have an opportunity here to show America that we can adapt and overcome, and that even if Covid-19 doesn't end up as serious as we initially feared, we have the heart to look out for our neighbors and communities.
We should be standing as shining bulwarks against the growing anarchy and nihilism that seeks to tear apart the shared values that founded this country, fed by narratives of victimhood. But some of us seem to be parroting this victimhood mentality by shouting about the purported oppressiveness of masks.
Well put brother. I feel like this is such a minor inconvenience, and the argument against wearing is so hyperbolic. It's embarrassing how childish some people are.
Yeah on the one hand I respect people's freedom to do what they want. On the other hand you have places like Japan where, as anyone who's been there knows, people wear masks all the time voluntarily to prevent spread of disease. I'm all for freedom of expression and am against any kind of mask enforcement, but this just seems like a dumb hill to die on.
I would much rather see masks and no lockdown than the reverse. One affects the economy, real consequences, and one does not. If it turns out to be a nothing burger then the worst that happens is they lose even more credibility.
Personally I don't feel like a bitch wearing a mask because there's science behind it. Also I think chicks in masks are kinda hot, I have a thing for nurses.
Thanks man, agreed. We have much bigger hills to fight and die on than masks. Like fighting the anarcho-communists trying to burn our cities and erase our history.

That's what the left does.
You know how to not be a cuck?
