Timing for this case is very blatant for October leak...

49
IncredibleMrE1 49 points ago +50 / -1

^^^ someone is paying attention.

The courts do not issue rulings based on the law any more. They issue rulings based on how much political capital can still be extracted by allowing the case to continue. They will not rule in favor of the inevitable outcome until that political capital is maxed out. The majority of SCOTUS was not like this for a long time, but after 24 years of Clinton, W and Soetoro, it's now infested. And don't get me started on that traitor Gorsuch.

22
Mrsattorney 22 points ago +22 / -0

Shannon Bream says it's kicked back to the lower court and the President can continue to argue about some aspects of it..I haven't read the opinion yet, but overall, it seems like the Supremes punted it back to get past the election. POTUS came out on top in the 2nd ruling because it was kicked back with some caveats that Congress can't just investigate for the sake of investigating.

17
Rainman 17 points ago +17 / -0

What's absolutely absurd is this "investigation" by NY is over unsubstantiated

disclosures of hush payments to two women who said they had past sexual relationships with him [Trump], pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal. Trump and his aides have denied the relationships.

Even if the allegations were true, hush money is NOT unlawful and NY has no jurisdiction over campaign finances and that piece of shit Vance knows it

15
zettapede 15 points ago +15 / -0

Plus both women recanted. Yes, even Stormy.

7
usuck911 7 points ago +7 / -0

The excuse for asking for Trump financial records is ridiculous.

Why can't the DOJ step in and rebuke the NY prosecutor over this? This is presidential harassment 2.0

What about the Trump 2 appointed Judges voting for this??

The swamp is DEEP!! It will likely take 1000 years to drain at this rate.

2
stratocaster_patriot 2 points ago +2 / -0

It is ridiculous and virulent. Unfortunately we won't have 1000 years to drain it. Our nation could fall in less than 20 years at this rate. That's pretty pessimistic but within the realm of possibility. We are fighting brother against brother these days (you and I have had some debate but I don't fight you personally and believe we are on the same team) when we all should know where the fight should go. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12.

7

No. The Supreme Court blocked Congress from getting his tax records. Previous judgements thrown out and will be sent back to a lower district court to relitigate, which could take years. This is an absolute win for Trump because they won't get his taxes for a LONG time, if ever.

heightnoise 40 points ago +42 / -2

This is a loss for future Presidents, not necessarily our own, but make no mistake this will cause headaches for GEOTUS in the coming years. Once these tax returns are released (because absolute immunity is refuted), their contents will be spun to form a new impeachment inquiry.

Also, keep in mind that the powers-that-be are NOT above doctoring documents, even documents in a court of law. When scans of the returns are released, we should look carefully at how the text is displayed/if WhiteOut was used or something was copy/pasted. We're the front lines on that, so vigilance is key.

12
omegapede 12 points ago +12 / -0

It's disgusting how dirty the dems are and what they will do to get a duly elected president out of office

14

3
heightnoise 3 points ago +3 / -0

Which is why we need to keep our eyes peeled. Don't abide the fuckery.

8
cucks_on_parade 8 points ago +8 / -0

It's not like Trump wouldn't have copies of his own tax returns to post if they tried to doctor them

3
heightnoise 3 points ago +3 / -0

Very true, but that would result in a "he-said-she-said" impasse. It's Trump's own tax returns, the interest he has in them being vindicating would not be overlooked, just as those with animus seeking to show the returns are "damning" would be looked at with the same scrutiny (in a just world).

What GEOTUS needs to do is have a member of his cabinet request a third-party verify their authenticity, and have that third-party be one with no history of political bias. It would still be scrutinized, but not as much as if Trump releases the "authentic" returns himself.

5
Granny 5 points ago +5 / -0

This upsets me because I don't think it's fair to Trump's tax accountants. Those are not only his tax documents; they are also, in my view, the valuable intellectual property of the accounting firm.

4
Nostaws 4 points ago +4 / -0

And they'll cherry pick documents that can be used to make him look bad and hide/pretend to miss any documents that disprove any wrong doing, boringly predictable

This seemed a pretty clear-cut case to me. The President does not have to provide personal financial records to congress without clear and specific need. The President does have to provide personal financial records to the court when they are appropriately requested as part of a legal case.

We all know that if the court acquires the records, they will be leaked to congress.

However, the records have undoubtedly already been leaked to congress, through Democrat hires in the IRS. However, if congress officially uses said records, they will now be in direct violation of a Supreme Court ruling.

That's as good as we're going to get.

14
Nameless_Mofo 14 points ago +15 / -1

As if demonrats gave a fuck about being in violation of fuck-all.

They are all lawless heathens that should be locked the fuck up.

That's it. That's the comment.

10
Farmerbob1 10 points ago +10 / -0

Oh, the Democrats don't give a fuck about being in violation of Supreme Court orders, they care about what undecided voters think about them being in violation of Supreme Court orders.

It is an election year. Democrats have doubtlessly had Trump's tax returns, obtained illegally, for years now. The fact that they have not been leaked to the public before now is proof that Democrat obsession with them is a nothingburger.

7
SwiftKAG2020 7 points ago +7 / -0

They make their own votes and play by their own rules. The established politicians (yes Republicunts as well) will always do whatever it takes to win. Law be damned. Who's going to stop them? I'm getting sick of dealing with all the lawlessness.... Dark times no question.

I just pray they don't succeed in stealing the election and that Trump has an ace up his sleeve. IDGAF about optics anymore. He needs to come down hard and heavy no matter the outrage or liberal tears or threat of civil war.

Mark Levin with the following: https://imgur.com/U44zqyk

  1. The Supreme Court just opened itself up to congressional demands for the individual justices' tax returns.
  1. I can see a situation in which the House or the Senate decides that it must have access to all of the justices' tax and financial records each year to determine if they're influences in any way to write the decisions they write or vote the way they vote on numerous cases.
  1. The justices will not be able to argue that they are immune as a matter of separation of powers as they just shot down that argument as applies to the president.
4
RiverFenix 4 points ago +4 / -0

Maybe Trump withholding tax returns that are spotless, on principle, has strategic value as well. The DS and Dems shoot themselves in the foot constantly while trying to ram through socialism.

4
Coslin 4 points ago +4 / -0

https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/19pdf/19-715_febh.pdf

"JUSTICE THOMAS, dissenting. Three Committees of the U. S. House of Representatives issued subpoenas to several accounting and financial firms to obtain the personal financial records of the President, his family, and several of his business entities. The Committees do not argue that these subpoenas were issued pursuant to the House’s impeachment power. Instead, they argue that the subpoenas are a valid exercise of their legislative powers. Petitioners challenge the validity of these subpoenas. In doing so, they call into question our precedents to the extent that they allow Congress to issue legislative subpoenas for the President’s private, nonofficial documents. I would hold that Congress has no power to issue a legislative subpoena for private, nonofficial documents—whether they belong to the President or not. Congress may be able to obtain these documents as part of an investigation of the President, but to do so, it must proceed under the impeachment power. Accordingly, I would reverse the judgments of the Courts of Appeals."

3
heightnoise 3 points ago +3 / -0

Reading when compared to the majority, it would appear that the argument that legitimate subpoenas, not ones for political character-assassination purposes, are legitimate ends to contribute to the formulation of an impeachment inquiry has won out. This will be an annoyance for GEOTUS, but the idea of the Justices is of precedent applied to future Presidents. This might save us from a corrupt President in the future if used without political bias but for justice. Time will tell, however.

4
Coslin 4 points ago +4 / -0

I don't disagree at all. I don't believe the President is greater than any man or woman, legally. We should all be treated equally in the eyes of the law.

1
heightnoise 1 point ago +1 / -0

My question is how this "test" they propose will be legally navigated to show a Congressional subpoena is not for the sole purpose of political warfare. There needs to be oversight on that which is NOT directly controlled by either the Executive or Legislative Branches, but the Judicial Branch can't either because such a power would upset checks-and-balances. Perhaps a joint entity? I don't want to wait for jurisprudence to be developed, that process could result in some serious damages.
