Agreed, I don't understand how anyone can look at the epic failure of alcohol prohibition and think that is the correct approach for other substances. Think of it like this:
Suppose the government is paying for your daily soy lattes you get at your local Starbucks with taxpayer's money. Max is 3 per day. Is this something necessary for people to have? No. If the people write new laws to abolish this "free soy lattes" shit, then do it. The Squad isn't doing exactly that. Matter of fact, they want to expand it to 6 free soy lattes per day.
Let's say we have the police presence to protect us from criminals and whatever else, like we do now. Is this something we need? Absolutely. The Squad is trying to pass a law to defund the police and do away with the police force altogether. That's not what we want when we speak of "less government".
This is a matter of keeping necessities v. abolishing necessities. The Squad is focusing on the latter.
