I have to agree, now in my 50s i can see my dad, a strong veteran, stood silent and minded his own business as schools went to shit and factories moved oversees. First it was only small piece parts, then the motors, next they were only don't final assembly here and then the plant was closed while Democrats promised a better tomorrow

hard times create strong men (ww2 and great depression creating silent generation)

strong men create good times (the booming country from 1947-1990)

Good times create weak men (baby boomers eho took everything for granted and did nothing to foght for there country))

weak men create hard times

Civil wars don't normally go as well as the American Revolution. Imagine if George Washington had not been the giant that he was and had taken the crown they offered him when it was over.

The Russian revolution against the Czar was not the communists. It was the White Russians, who were democratic. Then right after it was over before they could get their new government established the Red Russians came in with a new revolution.

How about the French Revolution. Lots of promises of democracy from a man that then crowned himself emperor.

This is part of the reason for reluctance to revolution.

30
hjsjdvd 30 points ago +31 / -1

America might be one of the only times in history that our revolution resulted in it people's republic government. almost every other revolution resultsledd in a dictator taking power

Yeah I've said to a lot of people, especially about the Syrian civil war since my wife is from there, that our revolution is special because the revolutionaries weren't really even revolting against their local government, they were against a foreign government that played games with their "representation".

4
Freedom2020 4 points ago +4 / -0

Exactly. The American Revolution was exceptional BECAUSE it didn't fall into ruin or dictatorship after the war was over Washington gets all credit for this. He not only won the Revolutionary War against all odds, holding it together until the French entered in. He refused to be king.. AND he was instrumental in the forming of the constitution and the establishment of the new government under the constitution. We have and unbelievable history of dedicated men to liberty and freedom. I pray we don't lose it.

Paris Nov. 13. 1787. the people can not be all, & always, well informed. the part which is wrong [. . .] will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. if they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. we have had 13. states independant 11. years. there has been one rebellion. that comes to one rebellion in a century & a half for each state. what country before ever existed a century & half without a rebellion? & what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms. the remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. what signify a few lives lost in a century or two? the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. it is it’s natural manure.

Circumstances are very much different at this point in time. Other countries will most likely not remain on the sidelines if a civil war breaks out.

52

That is why they keep sending the strong young men off to war every other generation. By the time they return they are so damaged that all they want to do is live out their lives with their families. A bunch end up depressed and addicted. Plus, after seeing real combat the slow steady encroachments on Liberty don’t seem so terrible in comparison.

They divide our young men into small groups so they can direct the easily influenced into useful roles.

~20-25% into military and war

~20-25% into prison

~20-25 % into menial labor

~20-25% into college

The hardest to control are damaged in war. The second hardest to control are given hard blue collar jobs that keep ‘em busy while raising a family. Next group gets arrested. Finally, the easiest to control are turned into the useful idiots of academia. There are plenty of outliers in every group, many of the best and strongest business people come from college but a similar amount come from military or build business without a formal education. Just like plenty of the military folks could easily have been part of the prison crowd. Ultimately, the best and brightest 15-20% will rise to the top regardless of their path, those who were determined to be criminals will find their way into either prison or politics; but these four institutions are used to control the rest.

2
FutureMan 2 points ago +4 / -2

You have an interesting theory there. The 20-25% that go to war, usually do so under the pretense that it's "patriotic". And also there is a lot of artificial prestige that comes along with being a soldier.

0
masculinist 0 points ago +1 / -1

Only someone who has no prestige at all would cast those who’ve served in the nation’s armed services in such a negative light.

5
FutureMan 5 points ago +5 / -0

You're misinterpreting my point. My point is that the prestige you are referring to is somewhat artificial. It's not the fault of the soldier. If being a savant coder were to suddenly bring prestige, a ton of people would jump on it. But it doesn't. It's considered "nerd" territory, so only those with passion for the technology will do it.

When you look back at the Greatest Generation, having believed they saved civilization, having seen the suburbs come to be, believing we were moving past factory jobs to something better. They were sold. They were tired. They thought evil fell with the Iron Curtain.

45
Gunslinger1776 45 points ago +52 / -7

It wasn’t them as much as their kids. The boomers. Our first truly priveleged class, born to postwar excess. Never had to earn anything as a generation and fell apart during Vietnam war.

23
VetforTrump 23 points ago +31 / -8

Are you deluded? Where the fuck were you educated? I've been working 50 of my 58 years. Paid taxes at 8 years old since my dad got 1099 for my wages at the end of the summer. I was a stern man on a lobster boat. Handed Jack shit. The generation after me...spoiled as shit, every loser got a trophy, every whine got a response. Clueless

29
LibsAreBabyKillers 29 points ago +36 / -7

These millenials didn't come out of nothing. If they're retarded now it's because boomers fucking raised a generation of retards that we'll have to deal with for the rest of our lives. Thanks for paying your taxes though.

7
hjsjdvd 7 points ago +15 / -8

oh good for you you worked on a lobster boat. How did that prevent America from being taken over by communist? I don't care how many hours you worked at your job. maybe when it comes to the job market you may have worked hard. but when it comes to politics? I've never seen a lazy or group of people than the Boomers. They expect everything to be handed to them and they don't want to do any work for it. You see the millennials plotting and planning protests and marching on Washington and making their voices heard and they see results for it. Even Republicans to succum to their demands

Boomers? In control of politics for 40 years they never did shit. there's nothing. with a stroke of a pen the Boomers can make so many great changes to America and fix so many problems yet they refuse to. it's not that they can't. it's what they want. It would be easier for them to do it then it would be for the millennials. Boomers heeld more political power

having more money means you have more influence over your politicians. Boomers can easily make changes if they tried. but they never try. They complain. They grumble on the internet. They yell at the TV with Fox News on. but they never gott up out of their easy chair

7
FreeZone 7 points ago +8 / -1

every loser got a trophy, every whine got a response.

The boomer generation would be to blame for that though. Obliviously, the kids didn't decide to give themselves participation trophies, their parents did.

2
Gunslinger1776 2 points ago +3 / -1

Don’t take it personally, friend. Just like I fight for America but my generation sucks as well and I am the first to admit my generation sucks. You can’t argue that it all changed in the 60s between the commies taking over the universities, the rise of hippies, immigration act of 1965, etc etc. Sure some of the blame lies on “the Greatest Generation” becoming complacent with their defeat of fascism and not nipping communism in the bud, but the baby boomer (and again I don’t mean ALL) generation propelled all of it forward as a youth movement and hasn’t done a damn thing in 40 years to stop the snowball. GOP completely neglected and abdicated on fighting the culture war, and here we are. Trump is a boomer, and an exception to the rule, as you, and my parents. But as a GENERATION, it’s ground zero for all of this.

1
EpicPede 1 point ago +5 / -4

13
ErinCinderella 13 points ago +13 / -0

Here’s the deal. Every generation seems to think it’s their duty to make their kids lives easier. Boomers were privileged because of their parents. And the cycle keeps repeating.

When you want a better (read easier) life for your kids and their kids, you’re robbing them of the ability to learn responsibility, hard work, and how to take satisfaction from the blood and sweat of that hard work.

Our current generation is fucked because parents let them waste away on smartphones, tablets or Netflix all day.

Truthfully if you are that young then what you did notnsee was the American father increasingly unable to afford to feed his family until the American mother had to work. We have been so busy trying to just feed our kids for the past 40 years we rarely had time to be political. If trumpnfixes it hopefully you will never experience it. The system is locked for the common man. Plus if you have never been to war, you won't understand the aversion for us who have. Force us and we will roll over the enemy in a heart beat. So far we are not there yet.

21
Ballind 21 points ago +22 / -1

Not exactly right. The American mothers entered the workforce until American fathers could no longer afford to feed their children on one paycheck. The catalyst was doubling the labor force

24
GBA4ever 24 points ago +24 / -0

Women went to college in large numbers in the 60's. Found birth control, abortion, the sexual revolution. Went into the workforce instead of getting married. When they did get married, it didn't have to last. Divorce was easy and they could support themselves. Strong families are the bedrock of a civilization.

12
terrichris 12 points ago +14 / -2

Espescially when you use terms like boomers to blame a group. That is directly from the brainwashing that apparently took in you schooling.

7
TopKeksWithFerns 7 points ago +7 / -0

The boomer meme has gone too far. I don't blame the boomer generation so much as I blame the culture that arose in the earlier years of that generation. The hippie movement, the marxists, the commies etc. All those hippieshits got jobs teaching, or in politics, poisoning the next generation eve n further. Zoomers are a total lost cause though. Let's be honest about that.

I'm not sure why I shouldn't tell you and your generational division (a known chicom tactic) to piss off? By what right do you have to criticize, what moral work have you done for this nation, that compares to our Greatest Generation?

I bet you would be hard pressed to outline a list of actions you have taken that truly mattered. I won't have that problem. Only an understanding that what I have to live up to compared to my ancestors is far, far beyond where I am at today.

It's easy to criticize without proving one's worth first. That is the bastion of the leftist, afterall.

It's easy to get engagement with emotional triggers. It's another thing to put your cards on the table. Or in this case, show your true convictions.

Look at how they behaved vs. what they claim. Attacking Our President's own words about the "Silent Majority". They have their own agenda.

Well, if the US breaks up that will be the end of the strongest military in history. No other state before has had the ability to probably its borders from invasion, and still dominate all other militaries in the world. Without that military, China, Russia will both engage in campaigns of expansion, virtually right away. Ukraine will be a part of Russia in weeks and the South China Sea will basically be a Chinese lake. Why should you care? Because that will probably just the beginning of the destabilization all over the world. Economies would be ruined, and you may be at risk too, once everything goes off the rails. So, that's what why I'm not running to start the Boogaloo. I'm not saying it won't happen, in fact, I think that it will, but I'm not looking forward to the fallout.

Biggest mistake Trump ever made was appointing that piece of shit Gorsuch and the biggest mistake we ever made was supporting his nomination. The state needs to sue SCOTUS for this nonsense. They just fucked land owners in half that state. On Indian land, you don't own it, you get a land lease from the tribe and you can't sell for shit comparatively. It's like SCOTUS just gave away everyone's homes to the tribes, what in the fuck kind of legal representation is that?

WE EVEN HAD ROBERTS ON OUR SIDE THIS TIME and Gorsuch fucked us. Only 10-15% of the population on that land is Indian and Gorsuch fucked the other 85-90% of citizens.

Worst part is this entire suit was brought from prison by a convicted Child rapist, and Gorsuch ruled in his favor.

Fuck you Neil Gorsuch, I hope your tenure on SCOTUS is the shortest in history.

DoYouBelieveInMAGA 18 points ago +18 / -0

6
BeachFriends 6 points ago +6 / -0

Long story short, a guy argued to the SC that his conviction wasn't valid, since he said that the land was improperly transferred from being an Indian reservation to a state (in 1907 no less). The SC agreed, and 19 million acres in Oaklahoma now reverts to being an Indian reservation, outside the jurisdiction of the state of Oklahoma. This reservation includes the city of Tulsa. Tim Pool's video on YouTube today had a pretty good rundown.

You are completely ignoring the will and mood of the German people at the time of the Weimar Republic in this analysis. Hitler may have been a thug, but just saying “he was a thug” doesn’t fully explain his rise to power. The Germans weren’t just terrorized victims, especially at first. In the same way, it would be inaccurate to claim that the modern day NPC mask-wearers are just the victims of corporate brainwashing. They are brainwashing victims, but it is more complex than that too. They also emotionally and spiritually participate in their victimization.

No, Weimar failed because other countries tried to crush the will of the German people.

Nearly half a century of proto-totalitarian, socialist-autocratic power in the Second Reich crushed the will of the German people far more effectively than almost the entire Allied order of battle in WWI. Take a freaking look at the Voigt Affair and how a reigning monarch not only treated a con man in a stolen Army uniform terrorizing and robbing a city as amusing, but intervened to help get him a slap on the wrist. Take a look at how the Imperial Cabinet worked to stifle all debate in the Reichstag after news of the Herero Genocide emerged. And I could go on.

Which is why it's not surprising that after being pushed over and passed the literal breaking point in WWI, we saw such anarchy break out as the dictatorship fell apart and people started living life.

As for why Weimar failed?

Weimar Failed because it was a rather un-republican Republic, constantly veering between being overthrown by the Communists, couped by its own army, and facing down grassroots nationalist movements (usually national socialists). That along with some spectacularly retarded ideas and policies (like the finances, I'll get to those in a bit) and power grabs meant it was focused less on freeing the German people than on staying in power.

With the irony being that making Germans free citizens was one of the only ways it could stabilize itself. Which led to odd nonsense like the Weimar Republic grabbing guns left and right, heavily persecuting lawful firearm owners, and at times decreeing that any civilian found with a gun be EXECUTED when logically the only people capable of defending it against a coup by Communists, Nationalist nutjobs, or its own army WERE armed citizens.

Never forget that history is written by the victors

No, and this cliche annoys the hell out of me.

Yes, history is SOMETIMES written by the victors. But it's also SOMETIMES written by the losers or by neutral observers. See: how the miserable loser that was Franz Halder went on to write much of the US Military's history of the Eastern Front, conveniently allowing him to lie about his role and other inconvenient facts.

And this is further shown by how most people have uncritically accepted the apologias and lies of the LOSERS in regards to WWI.

and is never black and white.

Ok, fair enough, but it certainly includes black and white.

And a bunch of times you have some pretty clear differences. Not between perfect black versus perfect white sure, but between off-white and off-black.

The Germans were starving and lost all hope for a better future and their children, thanks to the Versailles treaty.

There's a lot fucking wrong packed into a single sentence, so let's start.

But the people who tend to obsess about Versailles "starving" Germans or otherwise weakening them and this leading to Hitler tend to be the same people who don't ask why the 1873 Treaty of Frankfurt (imposed by a newborn German Empire on a ravaged and largely occupied France at bayonet point, featuring higher per capita reparations than Versailles did) not only DID NOT lead to a French Hitler or widespread starvation or economic ruin, but actually came at the start of the Belle Epoque ending a cycle of revolutions, monarchies, and left wing terrorism that had ravaged France since 1789.

So why were the heavy reparations in one treaty blamed for starvation, economic collapse, and disillusion when the heavy and in some (not all, but some) ways heavier reparations of the other not?

Well, one is double standards. Those trying to whitewash Hitler and other warmongering German socialists don't like being asked to judge equally.

Part of it's ignorance, since the Franco-Prussian War's obscure today and the treaty terms that signed it even more so.

But the main reason is because of Fiscal Policy.

For starters, Germany decided on the onset of WWI- like it had most of its wars in the previous several decades at the time- had decided to finance its war not through credit or loans, but by a mixture of inflation and looting. Basically it ran the printing presses in order to magic what it wanted out of thin air (rather close to what the shysters of "Modern Monetary Theory" advocate and also to so-called "War Communism" like what the Bolsheviks inflicted)...while working to confiscate and loot as much as it could from its enemies and occupied territories in order to provide more goods to absorb the inflation at the direct expense of everybody else.

And while utterly goddamn inhumane, fragile, sustained by terror, and the cause of more than one famine this actually worked...as long as the German Government could continue extracting resources from places like Romania and Belgium.

https://mises.org/library/hyperinflation-germany-1914-1923

The problems were twofold:

Firstly, it only worked up to a point, as Germany and its allies were still blockaded by the superior Allied navies and gradually running out of resources, which the government responded to by...seizing more power over the economy for "War Socialism." Because you know how well THIS is gonna work.

But secondly: when Germany STOPPED being able to extract occupied resources, the entire system collapsed utterly. And that happened with the defeat of the Central Powers' main armies in 1918, meaning that the army couldn't keep confiscating crops, sending Romanians into slave labor, or the like and a whole bunch of angry yokels came out of the woodwork to take potshots at the troops. So you basically had a system that was already at breaking point even BEFORE the Treaty.

Indeed, the economic ruin and hunger stalking Germany was one of the major sticks the Allies held over Germany in order to negotiate and SIGN the Treaty, telling them that until Germany complied the blockade would remain in place (And if you understand some of the antics the die hard War Socialists tried you can understand why http://pygmywars.com/history/latvia/historylatvia1919.pdf .

So why did Germany not get better? Well, like the Mises link says: the smart and ethical thing the German Government could've done would've been to shut down the printing presses, prioritize repayment of the war reparations in order to build cooperation with rebuilding Germany and confidence in the rapidly inflating Mark.

Instead it decided to extend the middle finger to the wartime victims and continue printing money, effectively destroying the value of their own currency in order to finance their stuff.

https://youtu.be/Ydx72tT552k?t=718

THIS was the main thing driving post-WWI Germany into hardship, not Versailles. But Versailles was a convenient scapegoat for politicians "How do we CYA?"

And notably, the Mises article goes to 1923. Why? Simple. Because German hyperinflation STOPPED then, as the German government- facing collapse- ultimately gave up those policies and started cooperating in exchange for some concessions. Which is also why people (including Churchill) spent the past few years helping to feed Germany. https://scottmanning.com/content/churchill-had-no-starvation-blockade/

What caused Germans to starve and lose hope around the time of the rise of Hitler was NOT Versailles (which was not being rigorously enforced any more) but the Great Depression, this time caused by the US Wall Street Crash and German economic incompetence.

There was one patriot who said 'enough'! His name was Hitler.

Lots of patriots said enough, Hitler was just one of them.

Given the circumstances back then, I don't blame the German people who voted for him.

Fair.

They didn't know he would gas the Jews...

Well, a lot of them did. He wasn't THAT subtle about it, but fair enough, a lot didn't.

but anti-Semitism was widespread back then

True.

since the Jews were in control of most banks and tried to profit while others were starving.

A: the idea that "the Jews were in control of most banks" is pretty easily refutable by just looking through the major banks and breaking down the nationality, religion, and ancestry of people either on their boards or in control.

B: The Banks were an easy scapegoat for all kinds of people, including the supposedly "respectable" politicians like the SPD, as they were trying to survive in an era of government authoritarianism (that persisted even into Weimar) and mostly inflation.

Even Marx and Engels despised them. Here is Marx in his essay "On the Jewish Question':

Pede, I'm not sure it's wise to favorably quote those idiots.

It’s just a meme bro. It’s about the absurdity of the leftist history books. It’s about how stupid our teachers and professors and Hollywood movies and TV history shows were. They give us these ridiculous, simplistic explanations of history and we all go along with them like dummies. Then part of getting red-pilled is realizing the enormous web of lies in society, and how that extends back through the ages. An example of this is when people find out that The Crusades, which we were taught were an act of bigotry and evil, were actually a defensive war against Muslim aggression into Spain, France, and Vienna. Then history suddenly makes sense. The “no reason at all” meme isn’t about Hitler being a great guy, it’s about leftist professors and Hollywood movies pretending like the Weimar Republic was not a thing, and that the German people were either terrorized into submission or just genetically evil. Nobody mentions all the normal German families who were being deluged with tranny porn and why that might have made a person like Hitler seem appealing.

When I learned of the Spartacist Uprising of Berlin and started really reading the old histories of Weimar I started asking myself: why wasn't someone trying to stop the slide into degeneracy? You had newspaper ads for nightclubs promoting how young and fresh the boys were. Ads for sexual institutes for you to discover your real gender identity. Articles about how the German national identity was savage, barbaric. Articles about German history being one of racist supremacy. Articles on why Germany must join the internationalist League of Nations and integrate its economy into world finance.

The centrist political groups would get rushed by Communist thugs, declaring the centrists as racist fascists. And the centrist groups would back down, not wanting to be called racist fascists, because all centrists really want to be thought of as Very Nice People.

Only one group fought back. Only one group stood against the Communists and the filth unapologetically and unafraid. Only one group rejected the Internationalist propaganda and stated clearly Germany would stand alone and free.

But it was not until I read the diary of General Patton that it really hit hard: everything we were told in schools about World War 2 was a lie. And the general even states how the lie started and by WHOM.

Part 2 > The centrist political groups would get rushed by Communist thugs, declaring the centrists as racist fascists. And the centrist groups would back down, not wanting to be called racist fascists, because all centrists really want to be thought of as Very Nice People.

LOL no.

Pede, have you studied what Weimar Politics was like, or the major Communist Party Thug uprisings?

Part of the problem with Weimar politics is that far from caving in, even the "centrist political groups" had paramilitaries, and the Weimar Republic had an unhealthy fetish for criminalizing innocent ownership of firearms and summarily executing people, falling back on old Imperial form because a culture where the military was a law unto itself and police enforced law by terror didn't really know a better way.

Which is why communist putsch attempts were without exception utterly quashed, usually by the army, but also by Freikorps paramilitaries or the police. Indeed, the Commie Street Thug violence that we are familiar with in the late Weimar era as the Commie Party's fighters and the Nazis (among others) beat each other up was an adaptation to FAILURE. The failure of previous, large scale military-style uprisings by the Commies like the Spartakist Putsch in Berlin, the Bavarian Soviet Republic, and the Ruhr Red Army, meaning that the Commie Party shifted gears.

Only one group fought back. Only one group stood against the Communists and the filth unapologetically and unafraid. Only one group rejected the Internationalist propaganda and stated clearly Germany would stand alone and free.

Pede, please, you're embarrassing yourself.

This is not only wrong, it is LAUGHABLY wrong.

And to get kind of a prelude to this, I'd suggest getting Stephen P. Halbrook's "Gun Control in the Third Reich: Disarming the Jews and "Enemies of the State."" While it's mostly focused on the NatSoc dictatorship and their gun grabbing ways, it includes a lengthy prelude on Law and Order Weimar Style, such as the increasingly despotic criminalization of gun ownership, the rule of the police, and Communist terrorism in all its increasingly ineffective "glory."

There are a couple takeaways from this: firstly being that Commie Suckers have proven remarkably consistent across time and space. The following passages should remind you of Marxist basement revolutionaries here like Antifa (not coincidentally tracing its roots and iconography back to here) and BLM.

Secondly: it's that by the middle of the Weimar Era, the Commies and their party had degraded to something near the threat level of Saturday Mornign Cartoon Villains, repeatedly trying to seize power only to get stomped on almost any time they showed their faces. Indeed, it was ironically when the Nazis began their rise to power that the KPD started to regain SOME of its former traction (which shows that contrary to the KPD feeding off of the spinelessness of the centralist parties, it fed off of the Great Depression and the totalitarian renaissance the Nazis enjoyed).

The German Communists pointed to Mussolini’s new dictatorship and to the “German fascists” as reasons to organize and arm the “Proletarian Hundreds.”38 On October 24–25, 1923, with prodding from Stalin’s Comintern, the Reds launched the Hamburg Uprising, attacking police stations and seizing arms. As revealed in an account by its leader, twenty-five-year-old student Hans Kippenberger, some 1,300 insurgents with only eighty poorly maintained firearms, mostly revolvers, faced some 5,000 policemen armed with rifles, pistols, and machine guns.

The Communists seized some police stations and obtained more arms. Someinsurgents lacked minimal firearm training—they captured three submachineguns but had to obtain instruction from the police prisoners on how to use them! Barricades were erected, and street fighting ensued, but government forces predictably smashed the insurgency.

Without regard to whether the Communists really represented the working class and would have established a tyranny had they seized power, as they did in Russia, this episode provides insight into why the proletariat did not resist Hitler a decade later. The working class had few firearms and no tradition of keeping and using them (Halbrook, Pg. 8-9).

So rather than being too feckless in the face of Communist aggression, the Weimar Government and its semi-rogue military and police (to say nothing of the Militias) were if anything too repressive and oppressive of the average, law abiding citizen. Which is one reason why the transition was so swift: the Nazis had already infiltrated the police and co-opted the Army, so they simply took over the Republic's extensive firearm registrations. Which is one reason why even as the Communists gained strength between 1929 and Hitler's squashing them with the Reichstag Fire Decree a few years later, they were never able to mount another attempt.

But it was not until I read the diary of General Patton that it really hit hard: everything we were told in schools about World War 2 was a lie. And the general even states how the lie started and by WHOM.

One week later that general was dead.

Citation needed mate.

Especially since the idea that it was a "lie" that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 is...dubious.

Also, the people who generally like quoting Patton in order to defend the Nazis tend to overlook how he had no love for the National Socialists or Hitler.

1
Turtler 1 point ago +4 / -3

I'm not sure what sources you're reading, but as a history nerd who has studied and even wargamed here, something's off.

When I learned of the Spartacist Uprising of Berlin and started really reading the old histories of Weimar I started asking myself: why wasn't someone trying to stop the slide into degeneracy?

Plenty of people and groups WERE. What people keep ignoring is that Germany's a big damn place and people who held sway in one area (like heavily Social Dem, Decadent Berlin) weren't those that held sway in others (such as Conservative Bavaria or Reactionary-turned-Fascist Saxony).

You had newspaper ads for nightclubs promoting how young and fresh the boys were. Ads for sexual institutes for you to discover your real gender identity.

So somebody's watched the Weimar era ads, but hasn't studied the pre-WWI Imperial ones yet?

I hate to tell you this, but this kind of nonsense was present- even prevalent- before Weimar. It just became much more obvious. But just like the abusive quack Sigmund Freud grew in prestige after WWI but was a child of pre-war Imperial Vienna, scumbags like Karl Marx, Theo Adorno, and the like were largely the children of Biedermeyer Autocratic Socialism formed by Metternich and refined by Bismarck.

What changed wasn't the decadence or rot or assorted depraved practices, it was part of the environment. Namely the other side of the Central European culture: Autocracy. Metternich may have been a self-proclaimed socialist he was also a champion of the Divine Right of Kings and the man who created the prototype of the modern day police state. The Northern Germans refined this more and it was ultimately taken up to breaking points by the military junta of the German OHL (Army High Command) under Paul von Hindenburg and Erich Ludendroff, which was called "War Socialism"- Kriegsocializmus. Which basically took discipline, regimentation, and government by terror to extremes while preaching about the glories of war, the need for unity against "International Finance", sacrifice in the name of the Race and the Kaiser, and obedience to the "wise" and "beneficent" central planners (and if this sounds familiar, it should because these were one of the major inspirations for both the Bolsheviks- whom they had sent into Russia like a Plague as Churchill compared- and the Fascists).

That all broke down around 1918 when the glorious military could no longer stand up in a fight and a bunch of troops- told to die gloriously for the Vaterland in a hopeless, Gottendamerung-style end game lik the High Seas Fleet- decided that if they were going to get shot at they might as well take on the weakened dictatorship they might actually beat. And bam, suddenly Central Europe had entirely too much socialism and decadence, but not enough Autocracy, Militarism, or Terror to keep it marching to the orders of the dudes.

Frankly as someone who's studied WWI, I think that was a better trade for the world, but it still had a host of problems like we're seeing today. And the Germans didn't just discard the repugnant methods or values of the past, but also others such as restraint, self-discipline, respect for tradition, and so on. Which is why you saw such widespread breakdowns...

.... and this is BEFORE we factor in the Bolsheviks at the gates trying to start another world war and a bunch of angry, idealistic veterans from the front or reservists coming together and claiming they were robbed.

Which is why it's not surprising that the first attempted coup against the new republic came from the Commies just days after the republic was declared, and why it was only put down by using some of the old imperialist thugs.

Articles about how the German national identity was savage, barbaric. Articles about German history being one of racist supremacy.

Indeed, and it's no surprise you hear this being familiar.

But to play devil's advocate, it's worth talking a bit about context. Starting with the fact that Germany is not the United States of America. It did not achieve independence based on the marriage of semi-common cultures and grand political ideals that sometimes came up short but which were always worth something. Germany had been united under the sword by autocratic socialists.

Keep in mind that the Germans reading or saying this today had lived much or all their lives under dudes like this;

http://ghdi.ghi-dc.org/sub_document.cfm?document_id=755

They had experienced things like the Voigt Affair prior to the war, where a conman terrorized and robbed an entire village at gunpoint(s) by simply stealing a German Officer's uniform, hijacking a German army unit, and counting upon the terror and discipline towards the authorities in German culture at the time to get away wit hit. And that when he was caught, he was given a slap on the wrist and people like Kaiser Wilhelm II and other military leaders viewed it as amusing. (And keep in mind: he was convicted primarily of impersonating an officer, so the implication was that this kind of nonsense was ENTIRELY appropriate for an actual German Officer).

They had experienced attempts to do things like rein in the army and secret police after things like the Herero Genocide, only for the Reichstag to be told to go Eff itself by the Kaiser.

And above all, they had experienced 'Kriegsocializmus" during WWI, where Allied blockade, wartime losses, man's inhumanity to man, and the first modern totalitarian state all combined to make sheer hell for people both inside Germany and especially outside it.

https://encyclopedia.1914-1918-online.net/article/operation_alberich

http://pygmywars.com/history/latvia/historylatvia1919.pdf

So like a lot of the more naive leftist radicals, this kind of stuff was based at least partially on genuine concerns or issues (whether as the actual focus of the complaints or just as another rhetorical tool to call for revolution). And unfortunately the nature of the German government up to this point and culture meant that not only was the shattering defeat of WWI likely to cause a snap-back reaction, but that it wouldn't get rid of many of the worst problems, such as collectivist thinking, interests in socialist politics and philosophy, or so on.

That meant that it was never likely that Germany would settle on a happy medium or step away from the abyss, instead wavering between racial extremes. Choose your flavor of socialism: decadent pacifist welfare junkie Social Dems, totalitarian, militarist, We Are the World Commies, or totalitarian militarist Fascists.

Articles on why Germany must join the internationalist League of Nations and integrate its economy into world finance.

Keep in mind what the alternative had been up to this point: socialist autarky and a little Looter Economy. Which had been particularly evident in WWI, as Germany and its allies literally bled occupied territories like Romania, Latvia, and Belgium dry (of agricultural produce, materials, and even human slaves) to try and keep the central government afloat. And even then it didn't work.

And further keep in mind that up to this point, Germany had tried to fund the war by running the printing presses and looting, kinda like Chavez in Memezuela only the German Empire defined its "class enemies" as mostly foreign civilians and stole their stuff.

Until they suddenly couldn't any more. Which led the first Republican governments to respond to that and losing WWI by...deciding to commit economic seppuku by ramping up the printing of Marks and trying to shaft their victims of reparation payments. Which just led the Allies to occupy parts of Western Germany and worsened it.

Ironically things only lessened by the appointing of a quasi-monarchist conservative, Gustav Stresemann, to effectively head the government, leading him to switch.

Which'll bring me to my next post.

You sound like a leftist peddling one of the many “Hitler wasn’t a socialist” lines of bullshit. Firstly: the “modern understanding of the word Socialism/Socialist” is incorrect and fatally flawed by generations of totalitarian fanatics redefining the word to mean workers’ ownership or equality or other fluffy PR friendly bullshit and being repeated by generations of clueless idiots. I have challenged self-confessed socialists to define the term correctly and they could not, only for them to then accuse me of being dishonest when I used the definition that was founded by Saint-Simon and which united Owen, Marx, Engels, Bulgarian, and others.

Secondly: Hitler would fit quite comfortably as a socialist in the modern understanding of the term. Every compare him to say the Castros, Chavez, Maduro, or Ho? There’s a reason why lord of nationalistic turd world Communist inspired goons wind up resembling Fascists so much. Parallel evolution is a bitch, especially when it comes to socialist scum.

As for fighting the international banking cartel, you greatly overstate the degree of unity in international banking like most socialist idiots who think banking carted don’t view each other as mortal enemies. And even then Hitler overstates his hostility to “international banking” as shown by how he used their services to store chunks of change in Switzerland, one of three or so traditional heartlands of European banking.

And as for the USSR, I am always amused by National Socialist shills trying to pass off Hitler fighting the USSR as if he deserves some credit for it. As someone else has already pointed out, the bastard allied with and fought alongside the Soviets, having them fuel his war effort for almost two years of war. Indeed in late 1940 he offered them full membership in the Axis in order to safeguard his supplies from the Reds. That only fell through because Stain demurred and Molotov botched negotiations by overplaying his hand, meaning Hitler decided to seize the resources by force.

Moreover, it’s not like fighting the Soviets is some kind of remarkable feat.

Britain, America, France, Italy, Greece, Romania, japan, Finland, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Canada, Australia, and a host of other nations all fought the USSR before Barbarossa, and yet Neo-Nazi shills accord only Hitler credit. By what justification?

The idea that Herr Shicklegruber was the ONLY ONE (TM) standing against Weimar Decadence, Bolshevism, or what have you is so easy to disprove it's laughable, in some ways even moreso than the idea that the National Socialist German Workers' Party and Musso's National Fascist Party weren't socialist, because if you have no fucking clue what the term "Socialism" actually means and little knowledge of Socialist history or philosophy the lazy lie that the NSDAP's name was just a name like the DPRK's can seem logical*. But in terms of people fighting Communists and decadent globalists, you don't need to look far whether in Europe or Germany as a whole. And a bunch of them got fucking ANNIHILATED by the Nazis (including several with the connivance of Uncle Joe; there's even a freaking joint Nazi-Soviet Victory Parade that took place in Brest in 1939, commemorating the obliteration of Poland).

By this standard of 'Socialism' the US in 2020 is far more Socialist than Germany in the 1930s.

No it fucking isn't.

Because the standard of Socialism is not and NEVER AS BEEN about the degree of Free Gibs for the populace or how insolvent the country's finances are because of them. That's the kind of idiot bait Leftist shills use to try and sell their brand, much like how Red Bull claims it gives you energy.

Socialism is and remains about centralized, public planning of the economy. And even during this nadir we're still much less socialist than the NSDAP were, in spite of hefty efforts by our domestic lefitsts.

Your economic definition is extremely narrow and pointless. The US government simply bails out entire industries rather than owning them outright.

Corporate welfare isn't socialism, domination and management of what corporations do or get is. And indeed that's part of the problem, as Muh Private Enterprise shilling for the left shows.

He allied with the USSR for realpolitik reasons

Yeah, and so?

He went to WAR with the USSR for realpolitik reasons with a side helping of genocidal lunacy.

This was why he spent the winter before Barbarossa (from about October 1940 to January 1941) trying to seal a FULL ALLIANCE with the Soviet Union in order to safeguard his sweet, sweet grain and oil imports. Ironically what scuttled that invitation came not from himself but from Stalin being indecisive and Molotov overplaying his hand during negotiations at a time when Nazi economics (because they couldn't economic for $hit) began breaking down and the food and gas supplies hit critical levels, meaning that Hitler figured he needed to either get the Soviets on his side or mug them and take their territory and resources.

and to deter Great Britain from involvement in mainland Europe.

Considering he did this centuries after Britain had a continental toehold (in the form of Gibraltar) on mainland Europe and had ratified alliances with France and agreements with Belgium, Poland, and Greece, this was a terrible timing.

Capitalism and Communism were viewed as two cheeks of the same ass of International Finance.... both Globalist in scope, and opposed to Nationalism.

You've got that almost the exact inverse. International "Finance Capitalism" and Communism were both viewed as two cheeks of the great Judeo-Christian Conspiracy to destroy the Aryan Nation, their globalism being less important than their spiritual and biological inferiority.

(Which is also why I point out that for all the blather Fascists have about appropriating our complaints regarding Globalists, they actually weren't adverse to globalism.

The Japanese had their "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" in which a bunch of people would sacrifice national independence in favor of a racial hive mind that would dominate the world.

Hitler's mentor Mussolini tried to form a Fascist International at Montreux in 1934...

...and Mussolini's mentor D'Annuzio jury-rigged an international "League of Fiume" during his tinpot dictatorship over the city of Fiume/Rijeka in which he would help lead the "oppressed" peoples of the world in a global revolution... in a tacit-but-uneasy alliance with the Bolsheviks.

No, I am not making this up. Yes, I WISH I was).

The US allies with Saudi Arabia for whatever 'mutually beneficial' reasons I still don't understand.

TL:DR, it's an ugly holdover from the WWI era and our alliance with Britain, where the British felt that in order to counter the Ottoman declaration of Jihad and secure its oil we needed to pry Muslim states away from the Ottomans and dilute their authority while making them fight on multiple sides. So the British- in one of the great mistakes of the century- reached out to an unusually barbaric and theocratic alliance of the Saud family and religious disciples of Ibn-Wahhab who had dominated much of Central Arabia for 200 years, along with others, asking them "So you want boomsticks to seize stuff?"

Arab armies wanting to pillage, they did. Including taking over a bunch of regions that turned out to be crucial in oil, which we wanted to manage.

By the time the British had any misgivings about this, the Wahhabists had already seized even more of the peninsula, conquering Mecca and Medina (and that sweet pilgrimage moolah and prestige) and a bunch of oil-rich regions. Which along with British demands led to a civil war between the "Good"-Bad House of Saud and the Bad-Bad Wahhabists in which the latter lost.

So now we believe that we need to sponsor the Saudis in order to maintain dominance over their oil and keep them up as a "Good" Bulwark against something worse taking their place. Of course like most "logic" coming outta Foggy Bottom it's stupid and it would take me a while to do it...

Wasn't Bin Laden supposedly the guy who did 9/11?

Bin Laden and Al Qaeda were also seeing the overthrow of the Saudis for years, with those Saudi grandees and Royals that DID fund him doing so by proxies and others to try and avoid royal (and foreign) attention. It's sort of like the Wars of the Roses where everybody's an arsehole and at any given time there are about half of the aristocracy secretly-but-not-that-secretly supporting the rebels but they don't always reveal that

*Nevermind how the "Just because the DPRK has the words Democratic and Republic in it doens't mean it's Democratic and Republic" line of "argumentation" is also utterly fucking retarded if you understand "Democratic Centralism" in Marxist 'thought', something that was not really democratic but utterly centralist, and yet something utterly important to understand Marx et. al.

Socialism is when the government owns the means of production. Social welfare is not socialism. It's public benefits.

The government does not own the means of production regarding, say, retirement accounts. You are free to set up your own retirement account and manage it on your own, subject to taxation laws. But there is also social welfare from Social Security.

Nazism is in fact national socialism because the Nazi government controlled everything that businesses did, going so far as to tell businesses who they hire and fire, how much they would produce, how much they would pay, etc. Business owners were reduced to mere pensioners. The Nazis even outlawed private unions and replaced them with a single state-run union called the German Labor Front.

That's not right wing. That's left wing.

This is about self-preservation and not domination, preserving instead of destroying. Affinity to and preference for ones own ethnic and cultural group is normal and adaptive evolutionarily. What you spew is maladaptive and poisonous nonsense with little basis in reality.

Your obsession with framing everything around Germany of almost 3 generations ago shows first of all you are a clown with a low-functioning mental capacity that engages in pre-programmed group-think (leftist hallmark) and secondly don’t actually know history but merely what has been chosen to be driven into your mind by incessant hammering. To write that with any degree of seriousness would require that you deny all your previous posts, including just two posts ago when you accused a fellow American of being a Nazi. Conservatives who founded this country and continue to support it don't go around labeling random people as Nazis. Why? Our morality is rooted in Christianity. The majority of this nation is Christian. If you are trying to persuade conservatives to reject their predecessors and two thousand years of Christian heritage, it is an impossible task and you are, predictably, failing miserably.

I was just reading how land rights work inside of a reservation. If this is accurate, those poor people in Eastern Oklahoma have just lost everything.

The [reservation] land is owned collectively by the tribe and held in trust by the Feds. There is no private property. [Tribe member] families have use rights to parts of the land for homes or grazing or farming. Non-tribe members cannot do that unless the are married to a tribal member.

8
Raindrops1984 8 points ago +8 / -0

Here, tribal land cannot be owned by anyone not enrolled in the tribe. So if I rented to my best friend, who is white, and allowed her to build a home on my land, once I die the land and any improvements she made goes back to the tribe, even if I will it to her.

8
BillionsAndBillions 8 points ago +8 / -0

Thanks for clarifying. This is the policy for all tribal lands, as far as I can tell.

If so, that means half of Oklahoma cannot legally allow private property owned by non-tribal members, and would be forfeited to the tribe.

Sam Houston lived with the Cherokees for years. From Age 16 until he moved back to America to fight the British, then he became Governor of Tennessee, got in trouble for beating the shit out of the Adam Schiff of the time:

A harsh critic of President Jackson, Stanbery had recently lambasted the administration's Indian policy on the House floor and suggested that Houston had worked with government agents in defrauding Cherokee Indians while he was the Governor of Tennessee. Houston had not taken kindly to the accusations. He had demanded an apology and made overtures about a duel, both of which Stanbery ignored.

Still steaming from the Indian policy speech a few days before, Houston purportedly yelled, "Damned rascal!" and began beating the much-smaller Stanbery with his wooden cane. In defense, Stanbery pulled a gun from his pocket. However, the weapon misfired and only served to further enrage Houston and incite more blows with the cane. When the bludgeoning finally ended, Houston continued to the theater and Stanbery staggered back to his room at Mrs. Queen's.

The incident sent shock waves through the city and up Capitol Hill. Congress ordered that Houston be arrested and tried. Despite the best efforts of his lawyer, Francis Scott Key (yes, THAT Francis Scott Key),

. . . and then Congress censured him and hit with a fine:

The night before his summing up to the jury, Houston got drunk with some friends, which included the Speaker of the House, who was also the presiding judge. Hung over Houston was, but he rallied the next morning for a brilliant performance. He spoke for almost an hour, bringing in Greece and Rome and the Tyrannies of Caesar, Cromwell and Bonaparte. He quoted Shakespeare, Blackstone and the Apostle Paul, and a woman from the gallery threw a rose at his feet and shouted, “I had rather be Sam Houston in a dungeon than Stanberry on a throne!”

They found him guilty and sentenced him to a reprimand, which was like a love pat. Stanberry, much more serious than the rest, pressed for a criminal conviction and got it, but Houston never paid the $500 assault fine. He was on his way to Texas, with a loan from the President and status as an Indian agent, aboard a pony without a tail named Jack.

“I was dying out,” he said, “and had they taken me before a justice of peace and fined me ten dollars it would have killed me; but they gave me a national tribunal for a theatre, and that set me up again.”

and then split to Tejas and won Texas freedom in his spare time.

Dude was so legit. My city is named after a true badass.

2
Twoche 2 points ago +2 / -0

That is correct and it is used as a metaphor for his cautious approach to battle thereafter in that book. He was also seriously wounded in the Battle of San Jacinto where he captured Santa Anna and secured the western USA and Texas independence.

"Houston's horse was shot from under him; he was helped in mounting another. A musket ball then shattered his right ankle, but still he advanced with his men."

A more imposing illustration of the right ankle theory is the "World's Tallest Statue of an American Hero," the 67-foot statue of Sam Houston on Interstate 45 just south of Huntsville. It has Houston holding his cane in his right hand, which would be the logical position for a person suffering from a damaged right ankle.

There is one place, however, where the left ankle theory holds sway. That is the campus of Sam Houston State University, where Trace Guthrie's smaller 1979 statue of Sam Houston, that is also in the university's official seal, has the cane in the left hand.

Also, at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum at Sam Houston State, there is a new diorama of the scene beneath the tree at San Jacinto. The bandages are on the left leg, thanks to the alertness of Richard Rice, historical interpreter at the museum.

As the diorama was being designed, Rice became aware of a letter from Sam Houston, written to his wife, Margaret, dated January 11, 1853. The letter is in the four volume series "The Personal Correspondence of Sam Houston" edited by Madge Thornall Roberts of San Antonio, who is also Sam Houston's great-great-granddaughter.

"My Love," Sam wrote, "I have nothing to write, that would cheer or delight you. My health is fine, and as I only eat twice in the day moderately, I hope to retain it. I suffer slightly in my left leg, from the same cause, that I complained of at home, the San Jacinto wound."

Roberts also points out that in a 1938 book by Andrew Jackson Houston, Sam Houston's son who was born in 1854, it is written that "...the general's left ankle was shattered by a copper ball..."

"He would certainly have known which was his father's lame leg," said Roberts. "It was common knowledge within the family that it was the left one."

Sam Houston died in 1863. The periodic potshots at his character, his accomplishments, and even his courage continue. But on April 21, 2002, San Jacinto Day 166 years later, we can be ALMOST certain of one Sam Houston fact--the shattered ankle was his left

Is it true the Creek sided with the Confederacy during the civil war? A news article about the Oklahoma ruling mentioned something about this... basically the Tribes that we’re part of the Trail of Tears

3
WhersMyFuckngJetpack 3 points ago +3 / -0

At the outbreak of the American Civil War, Opothleyahola refused to form an alliance with the Confederacy, unlike many other tribes, including many of the Lower Creeks. Runaway slaves, free blacks, Chickasaw and Seminole Indians began gathering at Opothleyahola's plantation, where they hoped to remain neutral in the conflict between the North and South. On August 15, 1861, Opothleyahola and tribal chief Micco Hutko contacted President Abraham Lincoln to request help for the Union loyalists. On September 10, they received a positive response, stating the United States government would assist them. The letter directed Opothleyahola to move his people to Fort Row in Wilson County, Kansas, where they would receive asylum and aid.[43] They became known as Loyalists, and many were members of the traditional Snake band in the latter part of the century.

Because many Muscogee Creek people did support the Confederacy during the Civil War, the US government required a new treaty with the nation in 1866 to define peace after the war. It required the Creek to emancipate their slaves and to admit them as full members and citizens of the Creek Nation, equal to the Creek in receiving annuities and land benefits. They were then known as Creek Freedmen. The US government required setting aside part of the Creek reservation land to be assigned to the freedmen. Many of the tribe resisted these changes. The loss of lands contributed to problems for the nation in the late 19th century.

Not really. Reservations are split as much as the rest of the country. And a lot of the Dem supporters are either the drug addicts who don’t vote or the college kids who got into big schools for diversity quotas and come back brainwashed. Many of the elders, who tend to be vets and Christians with traditionalist values, vote hard right. Especially since Dems embraced late term abortion and rampant illegal immigration (which exacerbated tribal drug problems).

4
FancyBeerCoozyBeer 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yeah, just all that I meet are not on a reservation and hard right. Selection bias. I also don't live in a huge city. I know the leftist natives exist because that is all I see in media, but that doesn't mean much any more. The problems reservations have are a microcosm of what is wrong with handouts in general. If the receiver doesn't or can't hold on to it, it is only a subsidy for who they buy stuff from and who they work for. It's a subsidy for a way of life. A demonstrably bad one. There is no reason someone should be able to live in a big city on minimum wage, but then undoing any kind of handout isn't really an option either, so it is only a downhill operation even though it is labelled "progress," if only because it can't be undone without killing people. It's not a convenient argument.

Right? If all Cherokee and Choctaw voted left then Oklahoma wouldn’t have been the one state in the whole country where EVERY SINGLE COUNTY went for Trump. It was solid red.

memeticWarfare 34 points ago +35 / -1

Snyder Act 1924, says native Americans are considered US Citizens.

48
ColbyP 48 points ago +49 / -1

Which is weird, because they have their own land, reservations, tribal laws, tribal law enforcement, etc. Kinda seems like they want to be separate to me.

9
memeticWarfare 9 points ago +15 / -6

Yeh i agree, the reservations should of been treated as sovereign nations.

16
lanre 16 points ago +21 / -5

Why? We conquered them. Why would we give them their land back and set ourselves up to be weaker in the future because of it? We should've been honest from the start and said: might makes right, you're weak and lost, so you can either become one of us and speak English or leave. But if you stay and try to be a separate entity, we'll kill you.

6
clampie 6 points ago +6 / -0

They're trust s. The US government owns the land and why Natives are not allowed to own property

0

Or as states. The Cherokees in Georgia wanted to found their own state, but the Georgia legislature wouldn't let them secede.

They are still up under Federal jurisdiction and law though.... They can't legally break federal law just because they're on a reservation.

marcus_aurelius 10 points ago +10 / -0

If a people don't have unilateral right to secede, they are slaves to some other people. The civil war makes a poor historical example, because people find it difficult to divorce the morality of Southern secession from the morality of slavery.

Consider a different example. Imagine that, in a free and open referendum, 65% of Texans vote for independence. Their government then produces a Declaration or Independence from the USA. They produce a constitution and begin to prepare for their first round of national elections.

Those Texans would be exercising their natural right to self-govern. What right would Californians & New Yorkers have veto the will of the people of Texas? If you don't support the right of states to secede, you are an advocate of authoritarianism.

Tyranny of the majority is still tyranny, my friends.

1
Reheatingbyfire 1 point ago +1 / -0

That might work if the Texas legislature approves and Congress approves separation of Texas from the U.S.

But it's never going to work without Congress's approval. The relevant Supreme Court case is (funnily enough) Texas v. White. You should go read that.

TLDR: States cannot unilaterally secede. If they attempt to do so, they are simply in a state of rebellion, and all actions taken by an illegitimate government are null and void.

The colonists who wrote the original Declaration of Independence wouldn't have thought anything different. They knew that if they lost the war they would all be hanged as traitors. And they knew Great Britain would surely assert its sovereign right to put down the rebellion, no matter how many fanciful descriptions of their "rights as British citizens" they scribbled in their document. They weren't delusional.

So if Texas is planning on seceding... You better hope you don't lose the war.

1
Sporadica 1 point ago +1 / -0

This.

Everyone has a right to separate themselves from a higher power if they can maintain their own self determination and governance.

I don't want Quebec or the West breaking from my Canada, but if they choose to do so, then I cannot stop them, it would be immoral. Same with Flanders/Wallonia in Belgium (Honestly Belgium isn't even a nation, they're just a jurisdiction of two interior nations), or Catalonia or Basque in Spain or Lombard in Italy, the list goes on.

It reminds me of Brexit how the left kept screeching such shit like "it wasn't a true majority of people because the turnout was only 50% so really 26% of people voted to leave and 24% voted to stay but the other 50% of people are considered to vote the status quo so HA eat that leavers"

Same thing with Trump, "Only 27% or whatever voted for Trump so he can't be president". In Canada we had an issue with the Quebec referendum in that it didn't set a threshold, so people assumed 50%+1, the measure failed slightly, so it wasn't a worry but had Quebec won to separate, then I'm certain No voters would've shit the bed saying "not a true majority"

I just fucking wish that Texas votes to secede, they'd be better off IMO. Legally it'd cause a clusterfuck with existing pipelines I bet. I mean jesus Texas already has it's own air force and electrical grid for starters, that's a leg up on many other new nations.

0
Seanp12 0 points ago +3 / -3

The Civil War only ruled out unilateral secession. If it's mutual, it's theoretically ok, according to Texas v. White. And right of revolution still exists, though only Tennessee claimed it way back then.

Because the feckless Republicans don't do basic litmus tests for fear of media scrutiny. Are you pro life, are you pro gun, are you anti illegal immigration, etc. We should be asking these questions before even putting their names up. The Democrats do it every damn time.

2
Sporadica 2 points ago +2 / -0

I honestly can't wait for the Senate to ask Trumps next SCOTUS pick (i'm certain when he is reelected then Thomas will step down (dude want's to retire but he doesn't want to give the Dems a pick)) "Would you overturn Roe v Wade?" and expecting the same canned Republican answer they've gotten the last 50 years instead say "Damn right I would" just to see the left screech. Amy Comy Barret is needed for this!

Not only Thomas, possibly Alito too, hell, RGB might pass and Sotomayer might retire due to having Type 1 Diabetes issues, and Breyer too is 81 he might not hold on too longer.

Imagine if Trump gets 5 new picks in his next term ontop of his first 2, that'd be a record excluding GW, I would think I had died and gone to the moon.

The swingers group they belong to, the gay stripper at the bachelor party, the payoof to get their kid out of a hit and run, the girl they left to drown in the back of their Chrysler. The other side seeks these details out with a vengenance. Think of the reporter buying and moving into the house next door to Sarah Palin. Digging into Clarence Thomas' movie rental habits. Even if they find only small ones, they exploit them to get even a small favor from the subject. Appoint my brotherinlaw dogcatcher, buy this house from me and then I'll buy the connected vacant lot back from you for the same amount of money. The minute the subject granted that small favor, they just helped create another skeleton in the closet, slightly bigger than the one they were trying to protect.

Well, if Conservatives would listen to Tucker Carlson, you’d realize any lists are pure intellectual dog shit coming from “Conservative” think-tanks like The Heritage Foundation, The Cato Institute, AEI, The Manhattan Institute, Hudson Institute, The Federalist Project, and Project for a New American Century to name several.

These Conservative think-tanks are filled with Swamp Monsters that hate average Americans and are willing to sell out to the Prog Left to fulfill Eisenhower’s amorphous promise of “Compassionate Conservatism.” These “Compassionate Conservatives” are cancer because they are the Mitt Romney’s, Lisa Murkowski’s, Susan Collin’s, Lamar Alexander’s, Lindsay Graham’s, and Mitch McConnell’s of D.C. They would sell out their own mothers if it meant they could suckle off the teets of power just a little while longer. Hell, they sold America out to BLM and ANTIFA and are allowing the previous President to get away with “election meddling” and “collusion.”

A strong, imposing, Robert Taft/Barry Goldwater Republican like Donald Trump scares the dog shit out of Chief Justice John Roberts, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senator McConnell because he runs this nation for Americans first and refuses to back down. For a President that refuses to cower to the Deep State and controlled Media, he’s the real threat, so granting half of Oklahoma to Native Americans, reading transgender rights in a 1960s act that never dreamed of challenging actual biology, and saying DACA can still stand are blatant “fuck you’s“ to the lone voice challenging the constructs of a corrupt system. Washington D.C. is a third world shithole led by individual Idi Amin’s, Robert Mugabe’s, and General Buck Naked’s. President Trump is trying to lead America like a George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, or Ronald Reagan and cannot effectively do so because the third world mini-dictators in D.C. refuse to give up their pool of Swamp authority and power.

They're amazing guns. Uberti makes cheap clones that are good, but even Colt ones aren't too expensive.

I recommend going with .45 long Colt instead of anything else. Historically accurate and fun to shoot. The recoil isn't bad at all either unless you shoot high power loads, then it's a little strong but not terrible.

And the natives did that to the tribes before them. You don't just magically get land, everyone killed others to take claim to the land. Not to mention we tried time after time to make peace with them and they wouldn't do it. George Washington himself tried, and in response they kidnapped dozens of women and children and executed them in front of the town

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we didn't treat them horribly. But they're hardly innocent bystanders

2
Reheatingbyfire 2 points ago +2 / -0

The Native Americans alive today didn't do any of those things. They just had the extreme misfortune to be born in the wastelands of America that were only "reserved" for the Indians because literally nobody else wanted to live there.

And the rest of America feels kind of bad about how this came to be.

16
Thrasymachus 16 points ago +18 / -2

Except that North American tribes fought constantly, moved constantly, and were in fact the post-apocalyptic remnants of a larger culture that disease had wiped out almost entirely (from Ponce de Leon's pigs, in point of fact). They were literally Mad Max bands. Claims to what land was and wasn't under the auspices of any given tribe are entirely specious.

11
MichelleObamasBulge 11 points ago +11 / -0

Every square foot of land and even a lot of the seas were taken by force with bloodshed at some point in history. Nobody living today descended from a family tree that is free of conquest

What we're seeing today is the sore losers from the end of the age of conquest. WE white Europeans opted to call off conquest and cooperate together economically with other nations. We pioneered the notion of respecting others' sovereignty. Now the last losers in a long line of losers are mad because modern history started with WWI and they don't like being forever remembered as the losers.

Ask yourself though what message it sends when allow attacks against the character and legacy of the people who said "Look. I'm on top of the world right now and I could wipe you all out with a snap of my fingers. I think it might be nice if we try to coexist instead though, so if you stop trying to rob and murder me I'll stop trying to rob and murder you"? Do you not see how this mentality of shaming the victors will only incentivize people to find final solutions to those pesky other races that might some day rise up against them?

Like at this point if we actually end up with a civil war it's become clear that mercy, apology, reconstruction etc are fruitless. You either commit to genocide or you risk being genocided. That's the message the progressive narrative sends

Funny thing is they never had any land as they saw how white men built fences and wondered how on earth anybody could own the land. And in fact their history is completely a matter of , "oh is that all your shit? <warpath> OK now it's all my shit". This is why I am white but with a spot of Native Blood. It's called conquering, exploitation and slavery. If a Native is anything he's a hypocrite.

This country is going down in flames. It truly is. We needed eight years of hardcore Trump serving as a Band-Aid while the party got its shit together to take the reigns. But it's too far gone. There's too many weak Republicans, too many RINOs, too much corruption, no accountability ever fucking happens. We have a SCOTUS that serves as activists instead of following the rule of law.

We are being destroyed from within- population replacement, radicals and lefties in charge of every industry, a propaganda media that serves the DNC. This isn't being negative. It's being realistic about what is occurring.

It would be better if they were properly incorporated lands. Better for all Americans.

0
Grady_Wilson 0 points ago +1 / -1

Then change the Constitution.

But you can't go against this part of the Constitution and expect the other parts to be held.

You can't say that the 2nd Amendment is your concealed carry permit and say that the reservation system is bullshit and the govt should just do away with it without actually changing the Constitution.

From what I've seen it's the Left and the Commies that want to pick and choose what portions of the Constitution should matter.

So you can fuck right off with your piece meal reading of the Constitution. Maybe you and RGB can find some common ground on only paying attention to the portions of the Constitution you like.

“All the sky-is-falling narratives were dubious at best," Chaudhuri said. “This would only apply to a small subset of Native Americans committing crimes within the boundaries. “This case didn’t change ownership of any land. It didn’t impact the prosecutions of non-Indians in any way. All it did was bring clarity to jurisdictional questions regarding the border, and it enhanced the Creek Nation's ability as a sovereign nation to work with other sovereign interests to protect people and to work in common interests."

30
No_Malarkey_Joe 30 points ago +31 / -1

The silver lining with Gorsuch is that originalism is dead and now we can put to bed trying to find a "neutral" textualist. Do what the left does and put in conservative judges that rule conservatively. Ideally a neutral court based on originalism would be best for the country but we don't live in an ideal world, that's not the game we're playing and it's time for the Right to wake up to the fact.

Also fuck the Federalist Society and their lists of RINOs.

5
thetenman 5 points ago +5 / -0

It will be 70 years before we can update the balance of the court. By that time we will have lost everything. We can't wait to play technical games.

2
No_Malarkey_Joe 2 points ago +2 / -0

No argument here. I'm by no means saying get complacent and hang all our hopes on that "one judge" before we can start winning again. I'm saying we fight our battles and get active BUT when SC vacancies open up stop pretending that we can use "textualism" as the basis for conservative picks.

PeaceThroughStrength 30 points ago +34 / -4

UNPOPULAR OPINION: This was a correct ruling by the Supreme Court.

Everyone here got gaslit by the MSM which wrote a title with an incredibly expansive interpretation, which then gaslit Breitbart and who are now gaslighting us.

This was a fairly unimpressive trick by the pedophile's defense lawyers by arguing a purely procedural issue to move jurisdiction from the state of Oklahoma to a federal court in Oklahoma.

Furthermore, the ruling only affects purely court procedural issues.

Pedophile can and will be charged in federal court, be held in federal prison and be prosecuted under federal laws.

This hAlF oF oKlAhOmA iS iNdIaN lAnD bullshit needs to stop.

8
redstampede 8 points ago +8 / -0

If the interpretation we're seeing is too expansive, what do you think the ruling means instead? I don't know enough about the ruling to sort anything out yet so a different perspective with something to back it up would be welcomed.

7
PeaceThroughStrength 7 points ago +10 / -3

Things become complicated:

  1. There are twin sovereigns in every state, the actual state; and the federal government.

  2. To bring a case to the federal courts, there must be federal jurisdiction. But for purely state matters, the case goes to state courts.

  3. For federal jurisdiction to exist, there must be a federal subject matter. This generally takes the form of diversity jurisdiction (Florida party vs. Georgia party), questions of federal law (Challenging the NFA or ObamaCare), and matters relating to US treaties (Paris Climate Accords or, in this case, Indian Land Treaties).

  4. Here, the paedophile wants to get out of prison and how he will attempt to do so here is by claiming he is not under state jurisdiction but federal jurisdiction.

  5. Gorsuch finds that federal subject matter jurisdiction exists here because two facts are present: (1) An American Indian is charged in a crime, and (2) the crime occurred in Indian land.

  6. Because federal subject matter is here, the case needs to be transferred to federal court. There, the paedophile will be charged under the federal criminal justice system and he will go to federal prison.

  7. The state of Oklahoma still exists, and the purely American, non-Indian members will still be charged under state criminal justice system.

  8. The problem which Justice Alito alludes to is that now half of Oklahoma will be subject to federal jurisdiction. I agree that is a big problem because now every zoning law, every contract and incorporation there might be pulled from the state judiciary and into the federal judiciary.

However, we haven't slipped down that slope yet. The clear action now is to call the Federal Legislature and demand a new law to protect Oklahoma, or call the Oklahoma AG and bring a constitutional claim against the Supreme Court to clear things up as to the exact limits of where federal subject matter jurisdiction lies in that half of Oklahoma.

I never thought Justice Roberts would be the voice of reason in this case:

In his dissent, Roberts warned that “across this vast area” now deemed to be Native American land, “the State’s ability to prosecute serious crimes will be hobbled and decades of past convictions could well be thrown out.”

“On top of that, the Court has profoundly destabilized the governance of eastern Oklahoma,” Roberts wrote. “The decision today creates significant uncertainty for the State’s continuing authority over any area that touches Indian affairs, ranging from zoning and taxation to family and environmental law.”

“None of this is warranted,” Roberts added. “What has gone unquestioned for a century remains true today: A huge portion of Oklahoma is not a Creek Indian reservation. Congress disestablished any reservation in a series of statutes leading up to Oklahoma statehood at the turn of the 19th century. The Court reaches the opposite conclusion only by disregarding the ‘well settled’ approach required by our precedents.”

Does that not mean anything?

I have no doubt that most of our ancestors were wronged, abused, enslaved, and shoved off our land at some point in the past. Yet we must remain silent and obedient.

Now, we have a selective group that gets to enforce punishment and removal of our basic rights because of perceived injustice that may or may not have happened going back centuries.

Our so-called leaders are weak-minded idiots, who would sell us out at the drop of a hat if it meant getting to retain their power.

As much of a POS McGirt is, he seems to be getting off on a technicality that congress put into works a long time ago. The USSC is just saying that congress legally created this mess by effectively creating a reservation, and only they can legally dissolve the reservation (good luck with that in 2020, though).

IMO, the blame should be on congress, not Gorsuch. They've had 20 years, if not longer, to see this coming and rectify this kind of shit if they so desired, but have done nothing, as usual.

Unpopular opinion, but if we stand by the Constitution as written, as a legal and binding document, do we not also have to abide by other treaties and contracts entered into by the federal government?

As with so many other issues, Congress has abilities and responsibilities that it routinely vacates. Because Congress uses mushy language, the courts are able to legislate.

I hate the outcome of this ruling, but it seems on its face to be the right call. Congress has the ability to fix it, and should do so. I will be over here not holding my breath.

General comments on reservations: if they are sovereign, they get none of the rights, privileges, or immunities American citizens get. All such sovereign people should be given one opportunity to abandon their sovereign claim and become Americans. After that, absent a positive affirmation, passports should be required for travel to or from these nations, and walls should go up. No more government freebies.

1
Slick_Willy 1 point ago +2 / -1

Everyone everywhere breaks treaties, to bend over backwards 120 years later to try and 'fix' something is insane when the fix is to give half a state to people who did not own the land or had just moved there and took it from someone else etc

You think the downtown ghettos are fuckin' bad in liberal cities? Per capita there is more crime of every variety on Native American reservations than any shitlib city ghetto. Native Americans per capita commit more crime than black people. They are the objective proof crime and welfare are directly linked to one another.
