They are probably trying to get trump to pardon him so they can accuse him of lawlessness. Projection is, after all, what the left does.

Exactly right, this is the only play they have. Hoping for pardon to gaslight but also keeps Flynn muzzled about high crimes and prevents him from being appointed to a position by Trump.
