More basic. Flynn knows where the bodies are buried in the IC, and wanted to fully audit and reform it. He must be suppressed for as long as possible.
And by long as possible they mean until after Trump is ousted in November (they hope). Then they are back in control.. .and Flynn goes to jail.
If Democrats succeed in stealing the election through fraud, Trump should put out a massive declassified info dump into the public domain and let us all decide what to do.
Sure he'll do that. But if Trump loses there are much bigger problems than what happens to Flynn.

That is the point...cant in an 'ongoing trial' or whatever the hell this is. At this point, Trump needs to pardon so the entire thing can be squashed. This would free Flynn to tell this story to the public, which desperately needs to hear it prior to November.
A pardon implies guilt. Nobody will listen if that happens.
