The problem is that SCOTUS ruling states that the reservation was never officially dissolved once Oklahoma became a state. So now the entire eastern half of Oklahoma cannot be governed by the state of Oklahoma. Now it will probably become a federal jurisdiction like Washington D.C. This has big implications on Congress, the congressman who represent that district of Oklahoma no longer have a job. Only states get representation in Congress.
I feel like more and more this site is losing the whole positive 24/7 Trump rally vibe and it's turning into a depressing funeral dirge based on a lot of fake screenshots, LARPs, and generally depressing black pill posts. I can't tell if it's just loads of shills, pedes who are exhausted and a little depressed from being inside for the coof, or if it's just people losing their minds. Either way, every day it gets harder and harder to lurk in the comments section.
I live very close to these "tribal lands" and yeah, the Cherokees there enjoy a certain status in OK, which primarily involves their ability to run casinos and play free golf at courses built on tribal land. And I guess this perk, where if they get a DUI they don't have to go through the Miami OK police, but the tribal police which from what I've seen aren't exactly too happy about DUI's either.
No, it means that the state of Oklahoma cannot prosecute "tribals" for anything in most of the state. And they never prosecute themselves for anything. Ever. The entire case revolved around a convicted child rapist who argued that he shouldn't be prosecuted because he's a tribal. And SCOTUS bizarrely agreed.
So now, if a tribal is to ever face justice, the feds have to do it or no one will. Guess what the odds are of the feds prosecuting non whites.
Essentially, they have just created a privileged class functionally immune to prosecution.
Thank you for breaking that down. The other post is just stirring anger unnecessarily. We can discuss the appropriateness of the decision, but let’s not use strawmen or look for reasons to be outraged.

What if we moved the nation's capital to Oklahoma...?
Thank you, that makes more sense.
Thanks for the update. This place was awful today. People freaking out over half-reported news. We have to be better than a right wing r/politics.
Agree. Just wasted alot of time reading another thread on this......

As the saying goes if you’re getting flak you’re over the target. Stay positive.

There are voices of reason in the tribal system.
If the state doesn't have jurisdiction over the acts committed within the land, it's not that much of a stretch to say it doesn't belong to the state.
Thank the fucking lord. I was gonna go crazy if this headline was true. Rushed here to confirm what the real story is.
That whole thread was shills shilling.
I'm curious to know about this.. can you share a source link?
Thanks Pede - This is still a weird case, and it does not sit right at all. It also sets a bad precedent.
Agreed.. it seems like a small snowball rolling downhill... the liberals are gonna attach themselves to this I foresee...
If you give them an inch, they take the whole fucking state

Thank you for this
Thank you. There's a lot of fake news around here. Usually because posters don't take the time to find out what's really going on.
Thank God.

This should be stickied.
thought so.
We have some of the best Counselors.
No, it's worse. Instead, any tribal members on that land are no longer subject to state or local law.
tax free land? nice
