Churches usually don't clap in the middle of a speech or sermon....

I hate clapping in mass. Even if the homily is really good, you're still in God's house with His real presence (if any Protypedes would like to discuss this tenet of Catholicism, I'm up for it). You're there to become closer with God, not feed the ego of the celebrant.

Clapping in my church is reserved for:

  1. Worship
  2. Wedding announcements
  3. The pastors birthday, where he sits their reluctantly and accepts that his congregation wants to honor him in this way.
