I just finished a conversation with my boss' boss, telling me (as nice as he can) to make all my facebook posts both future and past as hidden as possible.

When I asked why, he made it clear. People are having their lives ruined by posting a maga hat and he was looking out for my best interests.

I work for a fortune 500 company, multi-national and my position is pretty damned important (only about 10 people are in my position in a huge multi-national company) and my boss' boss is warning me against having my whole life destroyed.

I can't tell if I should be mad, sad, or terrified.

You should be grateful, along with any other emotions you feel. Your boss' boss obviously values you as an employee and wants you to succeed with8n the company.

Agree.

Also, it might not be a bad idea to see if HR allows you to self identify. If they do, you can always self identify as gay, and then use that against them if the shit hits the fan. Claim your wife is pre-op trans. If your company is so "woke" that they'd fire you for wearing a MAGA hat on facebook, they'll have to accept you and your wife for what you claim to be. BINGO! you're now a protected class.

While true, the fact that he is even in this situation to begin with is insane.

Yes, if I could rewrite my post I'd mention that it's ridiculous that this is happening, but don't forget to see the one good part which is that his boss' boss cares.

Yeah. Op, the man is looking out for you.

But you should know this by now anyway. You should feel gratitude and comfort. Wtf.

I didn't mean to imply that he should only feel thankful... instead that he shouldn't forget to feel thankful among all the other feelings he has.

oh no, i didn't criticize you at all, by "you should know... " etc etc, I meant the OP should know about cancel culture and such. you're good!

spez: i tagged onto your comment because you're spot on whereas others saying the OP should lawyer up and such are imo out in left field...

Your boss' boss obviously values you as an employee and wants you to succeed with8n the company.

But not enough to protect you from the pitchforks
