I just finished a conversation with my boss' boss, telling me (as nice as he can) to make all my facebook posts both future and past as hidden as possible.
When I asked why, he made it clear. People are having their lives ruined by posting a maga hat and he was looking out for my best interests.
I work for a fortune 500 company, multi-national and my position is pretty damned important (only about 10 people are in my position in a huge multi-national company) and my boss' boss is warning me against having my whole life destroyed.
I can't tell if I should be mad, sad, or terrified.
I’m in my 30s and have never used my real name online for anything non-financial. Is that weird now?
Prudent
I dont inderstand why anyone, left or right, would put themselves online publically with real name, city, work and all.
I’ve said that to friends and family for several years- If someone came to your door with a clipboard asking all kinds of questions such as “name, dob, town, religion, political affiliation, marital status, where did you go to school, where do you work, family names, friends, friends of friends, coworkers, friends of coworkers, hobbies, interests, pets, where do you travel, what restaurants and shops do you go to, where’s your gym? Check in with your doctor! and so on and oh can we have all your photos and please identify everyone in the photos?”
Would you do that? Because that’s what FB is asking and you willingly give it to them and they’ll pester you until you give it all up. And they’ll keep all your data...forever.
But they still keep doing it.
I got rid of everything years ago. Life is better
You literally described how I use to do investigations for companies where the person didn't pay off the account balance. It is unbelievable what information people would give you.
Here’s an example I’ve read about and actually tried successfully. If someone is talking on their phone-hand them something. Anything- they’ll take it and most likely do something with it. Such as a piece of paper telling them to go do a task. They won’t ask questions or wave you off to wait, they’ll just take it. It could be a knife, sack of dog shit. Doesn’t matter. People are strange! And stupid.
Just make everything private.
No one can search for my profile unless they are a friend of a friend of mine.
You type in my name, and nothing comes up.
Spez: Well my profile doesnt come up, but a bunch of Boomer profiles do.
Just make everything private.
Private to other users but twatter's, fb's etc 100,000s of soy cunts who work for those social media companies can see it.
No that's wise
When I was growing up, and in the early days of the internet that was normal, and understood to be the right way to interact in the internet for your personal privacy and security. Then Facebook came along, did a bait-and-switch, and suddenly nobody seemed to care about privacy anymore.
