I just finished a conversation with my boss' boss, telling me (as nice as he can) to make all my facebook posts both future and past as hidden as possible.
When I asked why, he made it clear. People are having their lives ruined by posting a maga hat and he was looking out for my best interests.
I work for a fortune 500 company, multi-national and my position is pretty damned important (only about 10 people are in my position in a huge multi-national company) and my boss' boss is warning me against having my whole life destroyed.
I can't tell if I should be mad, sad, or terrified.

About 100-750k/year. Some well paying jobs are not self-employable and you cannot start your own company and make that much. 10 to 25 years of that builds REAL wealth that your principles cannot buy. That's wealth that your political opponents WILL have if you don't take it. Wealth that ensures your children don't have to go to a brainwashed public school and come back to you with blue hair asking you to respect their newfound mental disorder. That's money that can weather you through an economic depression, save you from mortgage slavery, allow you to set up retirement plans and put you in a financial position where you CAN have a spine. Congratulations if you already have the wealth to have a spine or if you enjoy living in a trailer home with a maga hat to keep you warm. I've seen a lot of things but nothing like what's going on right now with conservatives since Trump won. It's very very bad.
You're free to choose money over principles if you wish. I am far from wealthy by any standard, and I have made decisions before that caused me temporary financial inconvenience for the sake of standing up for my principles. I am glad I did because the hardship was temporary but I can still look myself in the mirror and regret nothing.

Unlike some people, I don't feel the need to express my political opinion at my place of business and I don't get upset when others do. I can sleep just fine not wearing a maga hat at work. Our environment should not be this way. People shouldn't lose jobs and have bosses and coworkers shit on them because of what they choose to do in their personal lives. That SUCKS. So does getting worse grades because you have a conservative viewpoint, not getting a promotion because your workplace is cucked. etc. My country needs me to VOTE in every election, be strong enough to provide for myself and my family, have the capacity to be a net taxpayer, etc. Bernie won't provide my children with better education, help me out when my mortage bill comes and me telling Karen she's a moron when she calls trump supporters stupid in a team meeting won't do shit for my country except make me collect unemployment until I find a new job. Conservatives should be aware that you can be self-employed and say whatever you want. They should also know just how petty and nasty a lot of their coworkers and bosses will be. They will punish conservatives and allow the most hateful left leaning rhetoric.

That being said, i'm lucky that I can be very vocal at my job about politics and not face any type of repercussions over it.
However, if my boss told me tomorrow that I should stop talking about politics or stop talking about how great POTUS is or face termination, then I'll keep shit professional and talk politics outside of work.
