Gmail does not know that you haven't opened them. They only know that you haven't opened the ones on their servers. You could have them being automatically forwarded to another email address from your gmail account, and be opening them there.
I am disappointed to see so many of the top comments unconcerned. Google is INSANELY powerful and the next huge threat to our republic, after we weather the death throes of the Democrat party.

I wonder if it's due to the frequency. I get 5-10/day from Trump, ontop of 5-10 texts. You're just not going to read them all. I found a bunch in the spam folder too.
