Makes sense. I created an alt on reddit using a sock puppet email id and also created a subreddit that was abusing Xi Jinping. Within three days, I got two recover password attempts on my primary email address. One of them was from Taiwan (obviously a Chinese guy using a VPN from Taiwan) because I said Taiwan was independent. He probably wanted me to think the Taiwan I was defending tried to hack into my account.

I deleted the alt reddit account and the attacks stopped.

Reddit basically outed my primary account to China. That taught me a lesson that Reddit isn't fucking around. If you are going to use Reddit for trolling campaigns against China, use a VPN and TOR.

One of the comments in the site mentioned by OP talked about complaining to the ICO. I wonder if I can send complaints from India. China and big tech really needs to be stopped.

Tencent.

Tencent invested in Reddit

Tencent is owned and operated by the CCP

One of the conditions of investment is giving Tencent access to user data

If you use reddit in a browser that has logins and/or personally identifiable info, the CCP will get that data

Get into the habit of using a "portable browser" as in, different portable-ified versions of browsers, and only use one of them for reddit etc.
Use different ones for webmail, and separate them entirely from a 3rd browser for online shopping and use a 4th for internet banking.

That way, whatever one browser leaks, it can only leak what it knows about.
Your online shopping browser can't leak your bank details because it never knew them, nor can it tell about what social media sites you use.

I use a portable version of Icecat as it supports normal firefox extensions.

And you can have as many copies of a portable browser as you want - they'll never talk to each other as long as you maintain browser hygiene and only use the right one for hte right purpose.

I create shortcuts and change the icons to make it even easier

As an fun aside, if you use Syncthing you can have realtime backup copies of your browsers on other computers, which means you can nuke the machine your on, travel to another country carrying no technology with you, setup Syncthing on a brand new machine and have your old setup exactly as you left it - and nobody will know anything about it happening

Just because I"m paranoid doesn't mean they're not after me

This sounds good. What are the portable browsers you recommend I should use?

Icecat is the one that I use for most web stuff,

I use Iridium for sites that need all the javascript and other things to work properly - mainly mail and amazon/ebay etc - remembering seperate copies for each service

Iridium should never be used for general internet browsing as it has far too much trackable stuff, but it's great for things that need logins.

Icecat + Umatrix + Chameleon addons are a beginning to having a safe-ish general internet browser

That is scary.

I have never been able to use reddit on TOR. It asks for one of those "choose all the squares with traffic lights" captchas, but it never goes through. I clicked for like five minutes before giving up.

Are you using TOR browser? Or the in-built implementation of TOR in Brave?

IIRC, they recommend turning off ad blockers and other extensions while using TOR to prevent you from standing out via fingerprinting.

Reddit is using a lot of fingerprinting to identify people bypassing their ads and shit.

Yeah but I'd rather be blocked from the site than to put a nickel in their pockets by viewing ads.

Amen to that.
