The USAF sent us to 'race training' classes in 1975, locked up blacks and whites in a room, told us to settle our differences before we came out. Did not achieve anything except to make the blacks angry because we laughed at their silly whining.
Later in the civilian world that morphed into 'sensitivity' training, included racial themes and sexual themes. I had the honor of being sent to a version of those on three different occasions.
Got sent to one class which lasted 2 weeks, had to go to Chicago for it. A multi-national corporation sent me because we shared work space with a sales office, us field guys were always being too loud, we tracked in dirt, we kept weird hours....one night a couple hours after the sales offices were closed we were still in back testing some equipment and a receptionist who was still up front for some reason walked back to our space and told us angrily we needed to clean the hallway before we left because muddy boots. I waved her away, told her to get out of our area because she was a safety hazard and go back up front, take a midol and chill.
Boom, two weeks sensitivity training in Chicago. I was never even asked about the 10 second encounter, just sent. When you come out of those things you are supposed to think this is normal.
