A lot of these DACA people are Americans. They really are. I was at the park with my kid the other day. I live in a heavily hispanic area. I met this nice young woman, hispanic of Mexican origin. We got to talking about politics somehow. I, being a white male, did what white males do, which is basically just said, "Ah. Yeah. Mmmhmm." and nodded. Well she continued and eventually related that she's DACA. Born here, no papers because parents were illegals. This was 30 years ago. She's an upstanding member of society, college educated, and works for a living.
She told me that she didn't understand how people who live here (specifically the blacks) don't take advantage of what a great country this is and consider themselves victims. She said she took advantage of every opportunity that this country gave her, and she would have never been able to do anything like it in Mexico. She legitmately loved the United States, and told me so. She said she started off in South Central, and moved out to the suburbs, and she accomplished it by hard work.
We even started talking about Mexico, and she said she even felt ashamed that Mexico was such a shithole - she didn't want to be associated with it.
Now, this girl was pretty cute, and I do have a little thing for latin girls (I married one) so I might be a little biased, but when she told me she was born in the U.S., I told her she was an American. 100%. Those are the rules - And they are the rules.
When I told her that she got really quiet, and just looked up and me and smiled - a smile of thanks. Of appreciation. Of gratitude that I had accepted her as a citizen of our country. And I want her, and other hardworking, family oriented and patriotic Americans like her to be here in our country,
The Democrats have told latins that conservatives don't care about them. That Trump hates them. This DACA thing is the only thing holding them back from supporting the president. If Trump gave them a path to citizenship (which I believe they deserve - you may not, that's fine) the latin vote would be ours for at least a generation, probably more.
