I think conservatives are just pro-the idea of police.

That's why I somewhat support the idea of community policing. If the cops lived in that neighborhood, they wouldn't dare to do something like this.

I think the problem is one of scale - it's urban police who are the source of a lot of these problems. I live in a low population county and know the sheriff and a lot of our local police personally - I went to school with a couple of them back in the K-12 days, for God's sake. Urban police often don't know anybody they interact with in a given day, and they're prone to "protect (their jobs) and serve (the DA and mayor/city council)".

It's not just of scale. They know you, so they may hesitate if an unusual order comes against you for them to enforce.

Another innocent totally peaceful elderly citizen living in the same area, who doesn't go out much and keeps to himself, may not be so lucky. It is the problem with power and immunity from most repurcussions if they do the wrong thing which promotes this type of behavior.
