The Resolute had to be abandoned by its crew in the Arctic in 1854 after becoming locked in ice. But, a year later, it was found drifting by an American whaling ship. Congress authorised $40,000 to refit the ship and it was returned, with great fanfare and was presented by the American government to Queen Victoria in December 1856. The return of the ship was celebrated in Britain, and the incident became a symbol of friendship between the two nations. In the 1870s the Resolute was taken out of service and was going to be broken up. Queen Victoria, who apparently harbored fond memories of the ship and its return to England, directed that oak timbers from the Resolute be salvaged and made into a gift for the American president. It was presented in 1880.
Fuck anyone who puts their feet on it.
In 2009 our PM, Gordon Brown, gave Barry a penholder made from the wood of Resolute's sister ship, the Victorian anti-slave ship
HMS Gannet.
Obama presented Brown with 25 DVDs of Hollywood Films. Which he couldn't even watch as they were region locked to the US
Britain didn't just say "OK, no more slaves", from 1802 they assigned a fleet of dedicated ships to patrol the world to prevent anyone else doing it - The West Africa Squadron.
The United States Navy assisted the West Africa Squadron, starting in 1820 with HMS Cyane, which the US had captured from the Royal Navy in 1815. Initially the US contribution consisted of a few ships, but eventually the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842 formalised the US contribution.
But fuck white people, right.
If you enjoy reading historical fiction
William Joseph Cosens Lancaster, writing as Harry Collingwood wrote four novels based on the West Africa Squadron:
The Congo Rovers; a Story of the Slave Squadron (1885)
The Pirate Slaver; a story of the West African Coast (1895)
A Middy in Command; a tale of the Slave Squadron (1909)
I do enjoy historical fiction. I take your recommendations into consideration. I'm reminded of 'The Sky and The Forest'. Came to me by happenstance and I thoroughly enjoyed.
I actually prefer the one where everyone around him is moving and appears blurred, and right in the middle he's sitting relaxed and smiling good-natured right into the camera.
Ohhhhhh like it. Very Presidential
We have the most Presidential pictures, believe me.
He's saying "I don't take no shit off of anybody "
That's a "You want me to stand up and solve this shit?," kinda look.

Great pic. The greatest? He makes them every day.

I am hoping and praying this mans has a way to get the swamp drained.

Reminds me of Churchill. https://www.britannica.com/biography/Winston-Churchill
Ding ding!
But Churchill was only 50% American.
3 min sticky! Our Mods are on it!
Wow that’s blazing fast.
Probably they were even faster, but were marveling at the photo for 2,5 minutes 😊
Should be his Presidential portrait
maybe if you were to add some shrubs in the backdrop. that would really set it off.
I will not be satisfied until there is a hidden sperm somewhere though...
I don't know guys, I don't see a giant sperm on the side of his head. 5/10.
Found big Mike’s account
I had to look it up because I don't remember that. But there it is, lol. A massive grotesque bump popping out of his head with a vein running from it.
The Resolute Desk
Put in the Oval Office by Jackie Kennedy, who realized its historic significance. Johnson had it removed but Carter brought it back.
