We’d be out there working and sweating and the people who lived in the neighborhood would just stand there and watch us. And when we weren’t looking they’d steal tools off the trucks and go running down the street. When I saw a police car chasing a man with a gun down the street that’s when I stopped doing volunteer work in the hood. I started doing work for city parks in the suburbs. Nobody ever yelled at me for blocking the sidewalk out in the country.
They ought to paint the whole street solid yellow, and then paint the names of dead inner city kids in blood red letters. Like a monument to black on black crime.
