I've got a sunday gunday question for my pedes, what would be a good AR (in 5.56) type gun to get? It would be my first AR so I'm not looking for anything expensive, about 1k max preferably. Just something reliable and easy to get used to. Needs to be NJ legal. Open to red dot sight recommendations too. Thanks.

My first AR was a 16" 5.56 Ruger with free floating mlok rail and telescoping buttstock . I love it. Very affordable and fires nicely.

It's about $700 but doesn't come with any optics (not even iron sights). You can use the extra $300 go put whatever optic you want on it. Or buy shitty ones to find your preference before you spend real money on an optic (red dot? green? iron sights? flip up iron sights? scope? etc).

Check out aero precision. Smith and Wesson m&p15 series. Colt 6920. There’s others too.

Off the shelf, A SAINT or an AR556 isn’t a bad choice. Many will tell you to build it, it’s cheaper.

They are right.

Just look on Palmetto State Armory or Bear Creek Arsenal. They have great deals on full builds way less than 1 thousand.
