It could be just an accident. Shit happens. Sounded like a welding accident.

Apples and oranges can both be cooked by well-timed construction accidents.

This is my hope as well. The ship was having maintenance done at the time. I pray this was just an accident, but would not be shocked if it was something more sinister.

If it was coordinated they would know which damage control systems are and aren't operational during the yard period. These ships have a huge amount of power to put out a fire, unless, the systems are in lay up.

How quickly should they be able to put this out?

There are tons of factors, from classification of the fire to available equipment. If I read correctly they are in the yards so not sea worthy atm. This means some fire fighting capabilities may not be operational or in lay up awaiting repairs and such. Its Sunday so they have a skeleton crew which is the duty section for the day, so the most experienced with damage control may not be on board. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. There is already likely federal fire on scene to assist from the pier. Let's just hope it isn't some combination that causes a hypergolic mixture in which the fire provides its own fuel and can only be contained until it expends said fuel or through using a kitty litter like substance the Navy doesn't use. That is very rare though.

I mean, the jets I fly on for the AF are pretty high profile, and in the recent past someone drove a truck into one and it was questionable at the time whether it would ever fly again.

That could make for a very nasty sounding headline, and very concerning if you wanted it to be.

The fact of the matter is that a maintenance guy accidentally let it idle into it, it was a complete accident, and it's flying again today no problem. High profile accidents do happen, especially in the military where everything is mega expensive.

yeah but you know the unions that work on these ships are run by the demmy shill union mobs, who are in turn run by the ccp. All in the guise of keeping american labor strong lol.

Yup and we call them the yard birds(shitbirds in the shipyards). All of them union and too lazy to leave the ship to go piss or shit. We called their "presents" trucker bombs.

That happened on my ship in the yards. Asshat welder had no fire watch, and caught a bumper on fire.
