I have no problem with this. One country, one official language. Inner Mongolia is China. Do you know how many smaller local dialects are still spoken within China and how many Chinese cannot understand even basic Mandarin?
There is no reason why kids can't learn multiple languages.
Imagine that the USA had eradicated all the native American Indian languages a century ago (as they were almost on the path to doing) and every child spoke only English. We wouldn't have had the Code Talkers whose Navajo (and many other languages) were incomprehensible to the enemy and who enabled the US to win with much less loss of life. Thousands of American soldiers owe their lives to these Code Talkers and their tiny, embattled languages that they held on to.
And all the Code Talkers also speak English. People are going to learn the majority language through simple exposure. There is no reason to prevent them from speaking their own languages in addition.
They are just making Mandarin mandatory in the schools. They aren't preventing them from speaking their own dialects.
China does this in every part of China. This is one of the reasons it has become an economic powerhouse. The only alternative would be to make English a semi-official language like in India.
