Yep ... I made a comment the other day on another post on how I was the only person at a grocery store (around Raleigh, NC) without a mask.
Went to the same store this morning after a run and 7am is when all the construction and labor crews are in there to get water, etc for the day/week. Not a single mask, and I overheard one guy (actually true, not exaggerating) talking with his co-workers about Bill Clinton and the Lolita Express.

The mandates being signed into 'law' almost always carve out exceptions for health.
They rarely go into more detail than that regarding if a business can ask for proof but precedent has been set with service animals etc so smart businesses simply stay out of it.
I never said there weren't exceptions, or that most people wouldn't ask what one's disabilities are. But the fact remains that there is no legal precedent to prevent a business from enforcing their policies if a disability has not been proven.

There's a "temporary" restraining order on him from issuing any Covid orders, but it didn't matter; the initial story about his unconstitutional order was enough to make stores put up signs falsely claiming the masks were now "required by order of the governor."
Since I knew this was false, I continued to go into stores without a mask. Unfortunately, I seemed to be in the vast minority. In March/April, very few people were wearing masks. Now they're all over the place. Even if the unconstitutional order is upheld, I still plan to go without the mask.

By law we have to wear masks inside of stores here (and also outside, if you can't do proper "social distancing") but at the liquor store where I get my lottery tickets, none of the employees wear masks. They have the required sign on the door saying that you must wear a mask but they don't enforce it. I never wear a mask there and it feels good to be free and NORMAL in at least one store!
We spent the 4th weekend with friends in WV (we're in the People's Republic of Maryland) and was so great to go out, hit the range, and leave the masks at home.

Yeah I am not defending Fauci and the panel's approach but its still not a great idea to just let COVID have a field day, its not a normal respiratory illness. The death rate is not high and has never been high enough to justify the amount of hysteria but there is a large variety of permanent damage from infection ranging from brain damage to decline in cardiovascular health. The young and healthy aren't at risk of death but we need to be smart and promote public health measures even if you don't want to use government coercion, there must be some efforts to encourage the American people to do what is in their interest and protect their personal health. Statistically speaking, even these cases of lasting damage are not excessive but I would rather we all wear masks willingly for a month or so and keep gatherings to a minimum for a little longer. Our leadership, whether it be Fauci, Birx or the others on the panel, failed in the beginning of the pandemic with the guidelines which were too harsh and accomplished nothing.

Masks do work though unlike a chain link fence for mosquitos. Keeps aerosolized particles from leaving your respiratory tract at high velocity which in turn reduces ease of transmission. Once the aerosol leaves your body it becomes finer as it spreads out into the air and as a result masks don't protect you from the particles on the receiving end. Masks work if people decide to use them for the sake of others, thats why the messaging from Fauci and the rest of the covid panel was so nonsensical.

I think COVID is like 2nd hand smoke. I don't smoke, but if I went to a restaurant that had a smoking section, then I will get some smoke. I will smell like smoke when I leave. So, if I don't want that, I don't go to the restaurant. People who do smoke know they are affecting other people.
If people don't want to wear a mask, they don't have to. They have a higher risk of getting COVID and if they have it, spreading it. But, if I want to reduce my chance of getting COVID, then I shouldn't go out in public. I agree with you that the states should not be mandating people to wear mask. But, most people, are just trying to do the right thing in a time that is very confusing about what is true and what is false. We should have a choice to wear a mask or not and not be yelled out for doing either or. If a store wants everyone to wear a mask, that is on them. If a store does not care if you have a mask on or not, that is fine.
The only bad side of wearing a mask I can think about in a store is that it covers people's faces obviously. So, if a store decides that people can't wear a mask in their store, I would understand. People who want to wear a mask wouldn't shop there then.
So, there is always 2 sides of the story, but I do not see why people get so mad if someone is wearing a mask. And again, I agree with you. I do not think the states should be mandating but we gotta stop yelling at each other for every little thing.
