I'm not corrupt/complicit, I'm just stupid/incompetent. All too common refrain that gets old real quick once you understand what's going on.

edit: Often heard from politicians. When caught they claim that they are too dumb or uninformed to take the consequences, yet they want your vote. So the choices are voting for a known crook or an incompetent boob, which happen to be the same person. The sad part is that they get votes.
