I just noticed we finally have upvotes AND downvotes visible. For some reason since around 2014 there has been a large push from somewhere to hide the number of downvotes on comments on the internet. Many places hid them. Some got rid of comments entirely. A while back I made the request to have this implemented here. And I thank you. This brings transparency and gives more information.

Is there a mechanism in place to keep shills and new accounts from downvoting everything into oblivion? Maybe the system keeps track of your upvotes and only lets you downvote that many. Even better (to fool the shills) if you quietly ignore their downvotes -- let them think they are downvoting, but it doesn't count unless they have earned upvote points.
Or something along those lines...
It's interesting, going through comment histories and seeing trends....some things always garner down votes....you might even say you can tell the hot buttons they are paid to suppress.
