I never said it was "impressive," I said in a qualitative sense its a more capable long distance navy than China's by a pretty great margin. Japan can interrupt Chinese shipping while maintaining a coastal bulwark. I would encourage you to look into the maritime self defense force it is relatively impressive and that's excluding recent purchase of F-35's.
The F-35 is a boondoggle when it comes to development and I think it shows you how a government project can balloon out of control. Now from a performance perspective I usually like to check multiple sources.
You'll see stories about the f-35 having iffy launches off of carriers, or spatial orientation issues- these aren't unique to the f-35. The f-22 and 16 both had several issues during their limited service introductions and that's why we stagger the distribution of newer models in general. It's a point in time where it's safe enough to fly, but we still have bugs to figure out. If you look at incidents involving other shake down periods of development the f-35 has a comparatively low accident/incident rate.
I think the best way to gage the current state of the f-35 are numbers purchased and what these foreign pilots say about the plane. Most say it's the best fighter they've flown, the smoothest ride and the most advanced electronic warfare suite in history.
The jap military is not that impressive unless they've been seriously hiding some shit I dont know about.

Do you have an opinion of the f35? If so what are your thoughts?

Still not as badass as the p-51.
