It's sad. I was just in Santa Monica over the weekend for business. Really beautiful area... if they would address their homeless problem. Palisades Park is LITTERED with bums! They're laying all over the grass up and down the stretch. Many just passed out on the grass in nothing but their underwear. I saw one giving himself a freaking rag bath right there while people were walking by him. Numerous stopping to eat and drink stuff out of the garbage cans. I was walking behind a family at one point and one blew weed smoke right in their kid's face, and when the dad turned around and glared at him, the bum started going all psycho threatening him, so the dad turned around and kept walking.
I was there just a year ago, and the problem has gotten far worse in the past year. They have this high end, wealthy area, very nice area otherwise, and they have this massive homeless problem and everyone just acts like it's not there! WTF is wrong with these people!?
It is against the rules to say there are problems. If you do, they come for you like a mob. Cancel culture is a cancer that is killing the will of everyone there.
California's urban homelessness problem has no bounds. I travel to LA a few times a year on business, and I swear, every time I go there, it seems to get worse.
It's a damn shame. I guess everyone has dreams of beach prosperity, but statistically, many who move there will fail. And you see homeless people of all races, all ages. I have no idea how to solve this, but I can assure you that more homeless shelters in the heart of the city, as some crazy leftists are screeching for, is not the answer. The demand for LA living far outpaces the supply. I don't know, maybe shelters with training programs further away from the city, where land is more plentiful and the cost of living is cheaper, paired with free or reduced cost bus tickets for the homeless? It won't get the crazy druggies out of there, but it might help otherwise able-bodied and able-minded people who are down on their luck.
Many people miss the point. Occam’s Razor. The majority of homeless people want to be homeless. They desire zero responsibilities. Giving them a crash pad by the beach (shelter) with every drug they could imagine within arms reach is their dream. That’s like 70% of homeless people. 20% are mentally ill and it’s fruitless to try and help them because they don’t want help. Maybe 10% actually want to come out of it; it could be far less unfortunately.
