Californian here. This isn't about Trump. This is about Newsom the Narcissist taking his revenge on us peasants for getting too uppity. I send him weekly email taunting his ignorance of the data (cases up, but hospitalization and death rates tanking), and I know I'm not the only one. Also, the recall effort is gaining steam, and Gruesome is lashing out at those of us who want him gone. He simply cannot stand the fact that he is losing his influence over us, that his fearmongering is no longer working, and that we are getting back to living our lives without him. He is a spiteful, vengeful hobgoblin, as are all sociopaths.
