When you switch to a sulphate free shampoo, which most curly haired people do, after some adjustment, your hair doesn’t get as greasy between washes. I know white women with curly hair that go up to 5 days between washes because their scalp isn’t putting off the excess oils from being stripped often.
Also, from experience, there are routine washes with a sulphate cleanser or a clarifying shampoo to deal with product build up. This is normal in any curly haired routine.

I'm a long curly haired white guy. I found the best thing for me is not to use shampoo at all. Just rinse well. Of course YMMV.
