she's a true believer unfortunately. it's also the left blowing smoke up her ass- as if she's been of actual importance of consequence on the bench- that keeps her addicted to the seat.
Blowing smoke? I'm surprised they literally don't have someone's hand up her ass working her like a literal puppet since she's practically a corpse at this point.
Imagine having no morals or ethics and having the power to do whatever the fuck you want to however many people you want, especially people you hate .. and make laws/rules that enrich yourself, your family, and your friends.
They aren't allowed to retire, they were bought and must earn their pay. Getting blackmail on a new congressman and knowing they will deliver is tough, so you don't let a good one go.
I don't know much about him, but from what I've seen from this video, he isn't very defensive of conservative ideas. He seems very much on the side of identitarianism and equality of outcome. But to be fair, maybe he's just playing devil's advocate so that he gets a good interview and can ask good questions, which I would totally support. I just haven't seen enough of this guy
National Review used to be an outstanding conservative publication.
And as pompous as he was, Bill Buckley was a brilliant conservative.
But, Bill Buckley gave his National Review to Richy Lowry before he passed.
I lost all respect for Bill after that .. and, yes, Richy was a pussy cuck at the time that Bill gave him NR .. I used to subscribe to NR on dead wood, and I've had to suffer that fag Lowry for many years before I finally gave up reading NR..
National Review is a joke now. Some good writers remain, but even they are affected by various levels of TDS.
They just ran a piece from "The Editors" calling the Stone commutation "indefensible", while failing to offer a cogent argument as to why it was so indefensible.
Just a damn shame, he was deadset on destroying conservatism, and folded everything when it counted.
Like Harry Browne, he loved being on TV. Vanity destroyed any semblance of humanity he had.
All of the mags I used to read pre-internet and early-days internet, have turned into things I don't recognize. They started to cozy up to soft thinking and lefty idiots, and that was it for me. How Derbyshire got treated was pathetic. That was really the end.
Look at Jonah Goldturd now...he was always a fraud. Sad...
Yes, when they openly cheered and not-so-openly agitated for Hillary Clinton, that was the final straw. How they could possibly discuss that, write about that, put it on the cover, with artwork, then sit back and think it was ok...that is insane.
I call it the anti-National Review. It's nothing but neo-con garbage. I blame its writers and many other mainstream 'conservatives (who were actually Dimocrats) for losing the culture war without a fight. They do want the nation to fail so as to create a global government ruled by elites.
I don't know anything much about him and he sounds pompous, but I like his style of interview. It's adversarial in that it's holding the interviewee to their positions, making them explain, and asking them to address some of the questions that a skeptic or opponent of the position might ask, but without pushing to make a case for themselves, not talking over him, and more or less accepting the points and counter arguments etc where they make sense.
In contrast to today's interviews where the "journalist" is a scripted mindless actor with a blatant agenda and the interview is a PR piece, this style can make it appear that the interviewer is shilling against the person, but I don't think that's the case.
Imagine the same style of interview conducted with Donald Trump, and with Joe Biden, on important issues. Imagine holding Biden to account on the muh Russia coup and his involvement in it, Antifa/BLM, open borders, defunding police, his Chinese and Russia corruption, his unrepentant smelling and molesting of children, his segregationist stances, his warmongering, etc. Trump would hold his own just fine, in fact the interview would be far more cordial than most reporters he deals with. Biden would be utterly dismantled.
Awesome analysis. His show 'Firing Line' ran for over 3 decades. His talking style seems alien compared to today's mannerisms, but content and approach were brilliant.
The Hoover Institution has a YouTube page with episodes of Firing Line all the way back to black & white broadcasts. He interviewed people from all across the ideological spectrum, from Schlafly to Allen Ginsburg and the Black Panthers.
Here's Buckley, JACK KEROUAK, some hippie commie asshole, and a very square sociology professor who studied hippies academically, having a pleasant chat for half an hour.
I started out cringing at kerouac's seeming wet brain each time he started talking, but then he would pull it off and say something insightful... mostly.
Look at who has done the most for the black community. Best economic opportunities have been created under the GEOTUS. Who has created the lowest unemployment numbers for our dark skinned citizens? Who has given the best chance for a second chance with the First Step program? Who has actually listen, and this is the most important part, acted upon the issues presented to him from the black community. To use his words, “Vote for me, what the hell do you have to loose?” Prior to attaining office- who has made great strides in the black community to assist in lifting them up? Most importantly, while recognizing race, which President has not boiled down American citizens to just the color of their skin, and used them only as a voting bloc? (I.e. who see’s the masses as individual people in control of the course of their own lifes if they want to reach out and take the reigns?)
Look at the Morgan Freedman interview- “There is no black history month. Its American history. Is there a white history month?” President Donald J. Trump is the first black President of the United States because he is a Champion of the People; Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, etc. This has Nothing to do with skin color and pandering to those who look the same, this has Everything to do with surpassing what we can see with our eyes.
The Marxist Left believes that if you are Black, you MUST act, speak, dress, vote, think the same way. Boiling down a demographic of people based on their skin color? How much more racist can you get? Think of it this way- a black baby is adopted by an Japanese family in a remote village in northern Japan. He is raised speaking Jappanese, fully immersed in the culture, Not exposed to the internet until he is 21 years old. Then, moves to America and legally becomes a United states Citizen, and has to learn English (and most likely has an accent). The Communist Party (Democrats) firmly believe that, based upon his skin color alone, he has the same values as BLM, Hip-Hop Hood culture, and is oppressed. President 45 sees an American citizen and works to make the country a place where he can thrive. When you work for the betterment of ALL the citizens, you dont have time to see race. When you dont have time to see race, you dont have time to obsess over it, and that is how you get others to accept you, in this great nation of ours.
lmao this is such a dumb comment. No, not every white person knows/says what Sowell has been writing about. His research alone should get him a statue.
A majority of people on this site, myself included, were led to our beliefs through reading Sowell amongst other thinkers. Do better, think more critically man
Uncommon knowledge from the Hoover Institution is your friend. He's been on there a bunch of times. Also look for the old Firing Line episodes. They're out there.
I love uncommon knowledge but there really is no debate. Just a couple based people talking about current events. Debate is where the real good stuff comes out, but It’s hard to find newer Sowell stuff like that.
That's what makes the program so awesome. The whole point is to get the views of the guest out there. If Peter "challenges" someone, it's only in furtherance of that goal. He's never looking to score points.
I think so too. Peter Robinson was a brilliant speechwriter, is a sharp guy. Ricochet is a good podcast too even though I haven't listened to it in a while. He is one of the few Bush republicans that I still respect, and I can count them on one hand.
Title should read smartest American alive. For his last stand Thomas Sowell is taking on the Teacher's Unions and he needs all the reinforcements he can get for the battle.
Is it just me or does it give you an intellectual boner watching someone with such breadth of knowledge and ability to recall at a moment's notice information that supports their points without raising their voice a bit?
I get it often times with Jordan Peterson too, like seriously these are the professors our higher education system wishes it has, but lacks completely.
The woman interviewing him gave me the same vibes as that vapid "so you're saying..." interviewer whom Peterson deftly parried a couple of years ago. She was expecting Sowell to roll over and he didn't.
This is a DOCTORED VIDEO!!!
There is no way this came from 1981... he is talking about today! It would be insane to think we knew all this stuff 40 years ago and not fixed a damn thing!
You characterize the interviewer as pompous. I don't agree. He is a representative of the intellectual New Yorker of the 60s and 70s, and seems to be a boorish prick. But he doesn't attack Sowell. He asks questions in a way that lets Sowell defend his argument. And listen to him ask smart questions based upon Sowell's responses. He really lets Sowell shine in this interview.
spez: The woman, on the other hand, uses the tactics of today: gotcha questions. Sowell handles these with great aplomb.
The great thing about Republicans is: we admire him. And not because he is black, he is our thought leader. He wrote many great books, better than Marx.
There is a lot of reactionary comments going on here because the title is misrepresenting what is going on here. This is not a news anchor, this is Buckley's tv show, where he would advance conservative and right values and principles. The purpose of the segment is not Buckley presenting his views and trying to argue with Sowell, he is being a good presenter, and bringing up points for Sowell to talk about, and bringing up potential objections that leftist have so Sowell can knock them down.
I realize it's easy to be reactionary without doing research, but it's sad to see so many comments misunderstanding this video due to ignorance.
Sowell is a badass. Shocking (not shocking) that he's not a household name in this country like race-pimps Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Of course, we know why.
He talks about it in a different interview. Summer job at department of labor and exposure to how government works did it. Man is a very top of pile IQ wise what worked for him would not work for most. He is also a natural speaker and a very good debater. Some of it might be from studying at Chicago under Freedman but I think more likely it is just how he was born
BTW Freedman is very much worth reading/listening to. Reading him during university is what showed me the light. I was crying when he died, had a huge influence on me. Great man and economist.
To echo others, the pompous guy, William Buckley most likely agreed with everything Sowell said. That was back in the days where PBS actually let a few conservatives, like Buckley and John McLaughlin, to host weekly political talk shows.
At 13 minutes you are clearly shown what the left thinks of Blacks. They don't think they are smart enough to even decide where to send their own kids to school. And so all their decisions made for them by faceless bureaucrats who have had the 'right' education (and were appointed by the Democrats in power).
Thomas Sowell in my opinion is the smartest living person on the world. Read just one of his books and you'll forever be enlighened. I had to change my views on some things because he beats you over the head with facts nonstop.
Watching this 40 year old video actually made me pretty sad. I've heard all these arguments before, and just about everything out of his mouth made sense to me and it has been a fundamental belief that I've held now for years.
What saddens me is that 40 years ago he was shooting down all these same bullshit arguments that you hear today. The woman on the program just parroted the same shit a blue haired ree machine would be saying today. Yet, after 40 years, the same shit programs, the same shit everything just goes on and on.
Makes m sad because you begin to realize things will never change. Logic and reason is gone. We have destroyed our world, its just a matter of time it feels like these days. Its all pretty depressing.
That was Bill Buckley, founder of National Review and noted conservative. He may have been a bit strange, but he was at the vanguard in the intellectual battles. He put Sowell on TV. He had a show on PBS of all places.
Maybe manufactured opposition perhaps, but he did go into battle with many Commie assholes.
Jordan Peterson was Sowell's successor when he dismantled that feminazi and her gotcha questions a while back. "So you're saying [something he never said]" - "No, I'm not saying that at all."
Dominican (Half West African half Iberian) man here. Grew up in DR till 7, which is when I moved to a hood in the US. I came from a loving family (relatively speaking), but not knowing English or the culture, I was never considered black. Enjoying math and science, I was considered weird and crazy. Idk if it was the democrats pushing this, since they control everything in the area, but luckily high schools were broken up into “academies”. Thus, even though it sucked because it was still government run, it was small enough that things didn’t get too insane with the crazies around us.
I was very very lucky because these schools went into complete chaos after a few years because funding was cut, for reasons I don’t know. I found the same type of luck going into college and getting financial help. I ended up paying just 1/5th of my tuition because of benefits of good grades and being a minority. That being said, I was the very few that made it. A large majority (~85%) dropped out or didn’t care. It was a huge waste of money in many ways. But they did try to make it better. I remember a lot of white kids getting these benefits after a few years because the criteria was changed to just be about poverty.
Looking back at it now, it’s wrong how we took advantage of the system. It was survival of the fittest out there. Immigrants that come from struggle knew what was on the line. Now that I’m on my way to return to God (former atheist), I only have understanding for evil and
I will do Gods work in fighting it.
I don’t have much more of a point to make, just sharing some of my personal stories to raise morale (not that it’s needed lol). Also, I just finished watching Bret Weinstein black intellectual roundhouse. #Trump2020Landslide
Easy now, well who would be familiar with WFBJr, now in a generation for whom Piers Morgan and God-forbid John Oliver seem like the pinnacle of British intellect?
My Dad once said, "I like what he [Buckley] says, but he should have said it faster and sooner and be done already."
It is an acquired skill to parse out those mumbles, but it is rewarding.
They are both. To deny this is to concede reality to make leftists happy. It is an absolute fact some races have superior genetic intelligence, some have superior genetic physical attributes. You can measure this with IQ tests or by taking one fucking glance at the NBA/NFL.
Problem is that genetically speaking there is more variance within Africa then rest of the world. Blacks in US are just a tiny sample of that huge genetic pool. Ever wondered why every marathon is won by another dude from Kenya but no black American ever even got close to qualifying for Olympics in Marathon?
Or why some “whites” can work in close to zero temperature water with bare hands and feel no pain at all? While other will be in excruciating pain matter of 20-30 seconds.
Humans are diverse and pigment of skin color is really a pure predictor of anything if you go outside of US.
Wow, the dumb feminist utterly embarrasses herself. After sitting through the discussion where he plainly illustrates how the appeal to emotion fallacy argument is completely flawed, first thing she does is wheel it out for him to shit on again. A true intellectual midget.
EDIT: whoever downvoted this is a pathetic virtuous tolerant loser hahaha. Your tears sustain me, cuck.
I came to stick up for Buckley and found your comment.
Yeah but can we talk about how long Nancy Pelosi has been around?
That is Nancy Pelosi right?
Or Ginsberg. No comfortable retirement. Have to subvert the constitution till the day you die?
she's a true believer unfortunately. it's also the left blowing smoke up her ass- as if she's been of actual importance of consequence on the bench- that keeps her addicted to the seat.
Blowing smoke? I'm surprised they literally don't have someone's hand up her ass working her like a literal puppet since she's practically a corpse at this point.
its more of a windsock effect
She was a true believer, currently she's a corpsicle...
Imagine having no morals or ethics and having the power to do whatever the fuck you want to however many people you want, especially people you hate .. and make laws/rules that enrich yourself, your family, and your friends.
All with zero consequence.
That is today's ruling class.
No downJeb from me ... and your last words earn my upTrump!
Hey you described deep state.
They aren't allowed to retire, they were bought and must earn their pay. Getting blackmail on a new congressman and knowing they will deliver is tough, so you don't let a good one go.
Top kek!
Me too
i as well
Not commenting here, but like to revisit to watch the rest of this.

As an older pede, I guess I am surprised by the number of people on here that do not know Buckley. You need to watch more Buckley.
I'll definitely check him out now

The publication does have some value now - as a negative and cautionary example.
Yes, when they openly cheered and not-so-openly agitated for Hillary Clinton, that was the final straw. How they could possibly discuss that, write about that, put it on the cover, with artwork, then sit back and think it was ok...that is insane.

Here is an excellent episode with president Reagan: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lTyZAul60ok
The Hoover Institution has a YouTube page with episodes of Firing Line all the way back to black & white broadcasts. He interviewed people from all across the ideological spectrum, from Schlafly to Allen Ginsburg and the Black Panthers.
10/10.
A classic!
.
"I do hope I get seated next to this William Ayers fellow -- I've heard he has some amazingly droll anecdotes!" Lol
Iowahawk. A classic.
Here's Buckley, JACK KEROUAK, some hippie commie asshole, and a very square sociology professor who studied hippies academically, having a pleasant chat for half an hour.
Thank me later
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaBnIzY3R00
Thank you.
Jack was a raving drunk, but he didn't like Commies. Sanders and The Shrink carried it.
I started out cringing at kerouac's seeming wet brain each time he started talking, but then he would pull it off and say something insightful... mostly.
He will also sock you in your god damn face, and you'll stay plastered if u call him a crypto-nazi
LOL - on live network television no less:
VIDAL: As far as I’m concerned, the only pro or crypto-Nazi I can think of is yourself. Failing that...
BUCKLEY: Now listen, you queer, stop calling me a crypto-Nazi or I’ll sock you in the goddamn face, and you’ll stay plastered.
He should of been our first black president. Instead we got Obama and ran the RINO piece of shit known as Romney against him.
Wrong. Trump was our first black president.
...
Is. Trump is our first black President.
Trump isn't black. I must be missing your point.
Neither is Obama. GEOTUS is black from the waist down.
Lmao
Seriously bro.....Trump is definitely black. WTF are you on?
Clearly I'm out of the loop. Fill me in instead of rubbing it in.
Get it now?
Orange is the new black, that's what the media told me. GEOTUS is black.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS0YVP5XGB0
Trump ain't black, he "TransNigga." I learned that on Red-it - so has to be true.
If men can be women, Trump can be black

One of our MAGA brothers calls the President, The first black President. :)
Fixed that for you https://youtu.be/Aas3YQKIFeY?t=3433
Thank you. Much better :)
He's had sex with more black women than Obama has. Although Obama has definitely had sex with more black men than Trump has.
Are Pakistani men ‘black’?
That would have been EPIC! Damn I want to live in that parallel universe......
I'll bet Sowell never wanted to be president. He just seems way too smart to put up with that clown show.
Thomas Sowell is a real black leader - he's brilliant .. that's why the left calls him uncle Tom.
Those slaves don't like house n*ggers.
statue building time?
The left will tear it down for being racist.
But why?
Because he says what most every non black knows?
Whats the statue requirement? Common sense but because you're black we use tax payer money to build a statue?
He says the same stuff as white people from his era but has black skin.
He says the same stuff we say here every day.
Statue because: ____?
???????
If he was white saying the same words we wouldnt even know his name.
Because he's a great American.
lmao this is such a dumb comment. No, not every white person knows/says what Sowell has been writing about. His research alone should get him a statue.
A majority of people on this site, myself included, were led to our beliefs through reading Sowell amongst other thinkers. Do better, think more critically man
90 yrs old still going strong, he was on levins show this past sunday check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK14nNRchaE

I'd love it if Sowell was still doing a bunch of debates and interviews, but there's 2 problems with that.
Nobody on the left with any sense will get anywhere near him, cause they know he will destroy them
Dude is 90 years old. He deserves some rest
And they couldnt use their intangible grievances cause blak
Uncommon Knowledge may be the best interview-style program ever. I cannot praise it enough.
I think so too. Peter Robinson was a brilliant speechwriter, is a sharp guy. Ricochet is a good podcast too even though I haven't listened to it in a while. He is one of the few Bush republicans that I still respect, and I can count them on one hand.
His story is absolutely fascinating....
Here’s a video where he talks a bit about his youth and early life: https://youtu.be/mS5WYp5xmvI
Check out Firing Line on YouTube

Dude has been slaying leftist philosophy for a long time. Much respect for Him.
He put a sword into the wage gap "debate" decades before most of the people whining about it today were even alive.
This is a DOCTORED VIDEO!!! There is no way this came from 1981... he is talking about today! It would be insane to think we knew all this stuff 40 years ago and not fixed a damn thing!
Why do you think they want to erase history so bad?
You characterize the interviewer as pompous. I don't agree. He is a representative of the intellectual New Yorker of the 60s and 70s, and seems to be a boorish prick. But he doesn't attack Sowell. The great thing about Republicans is: we admire him. And not because he is black, he is our thought leader. He wrote many great books, better than Marx.
Used toilet paper is better than Marx's drivel.
That "Pompous news anchor" is William F Buckley, a solid conservative.
I was going to say - he wasn't a neo-con either.
Yeah, he had some childish belief that collectivism has different possible outcomes. It does not. Its all dystopian injustice.
No doubt
There is a lot of reactionary comments going on here because the title is misrepresenting what is going on here. "As if these self evident truths are brought down from the mountainside".
lmfao Sowell is the man.
"No you DON'T know that!"
Thomas Sowell, Intellectual Badass
Wow. He's so quick with every response and theyre all spot on. Incredible
Is it wrong that every time I see these classic Sowell videos, I just feel compelled to throw my panties onstage?
I'm compelled to ask what the leaders of men is doing wearing panties.
Um....leading from behind?
News Reporter - "Are these genetic implications or purely cultural implications?"
Sowell - "I would think cultural"
I know that question was just...damn.
Man, we could really use another 25 year old Thomas Sowell right about now.
He said he was a Marxist in his 20's. We need 30-year-old Sowell.
We need to find out how he was redpilled, cause it must've been a strong one if he truly was a marxist
He talks about it in a different interview. Summer job at department of labor and exposure to how government works did it. Man is a very top of pile IQ wise what worked for him would not work for most. He is also a natural speaker and a very good debater. I haven't watched it yet (on my list), u/InfidelViking linked elsewhere a video where he talks about his early life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS5WYp5xmvI
Commies have zero interest in facts.
Imagine being that old hag getting your ass handed to you by a “poor ignorant black man who is in desperate need of your help.“
What’s sad is I bet less than 10% of liberals/BLM would be able to understand what he’s saying..much less make it through this video.
Milton Friedman has him beat. Sowell and Friedman were on the same team and there are several videos with them together.
Milton Friedman is very much dead.
Why isn’t there a statue of this man yet?
To this day, we still don't have the data that drive these ridiculous affirmative action policies.
To this day.
Just platitudes. Diversity is our strength!
"But show me the evidence!"
Buckley was cool but Sowell was/is THE SHIT.
Jordan Peterson was Sowell's successor when he dismantled that feminazi and her gotcha questions a while back. "So you're saying [something he never said]" - "No, I'm not saying that at all."
Charter Schools and Their Enemies just came out. Get your copy TODAY!!!
Bought it today, read his column at WSJ that talked about the book. Great stuff
I love Sowell, I own several of his books. But I've never seen this interview before. He was such a titan even back then.
What is beautiful about this is that everyone just talks, and listens.
Now that I’m on my way to return to God (former atheist), I only have understanding for evil and I will do Gods work in fighting it.
I don’t have much more of a point to make, just sharing some of my personal stories to raise morale (not that it’s needed lol). Also, I just finished watching Bret Weinstein black intellectual roundhouse. #Trump2020Landslide
I hate reading but am flying through Sowell books right now
40yrs and the liberal and feminist arguments still spout the same tired bullshit that wasn’t true then.
Buckley is a legend and you might want to do a little more research on the guy.
Ben Carson <---------------- Thomas Sowell
Easy now, well who would be familiar with WFBJr, now in a generation for whom Piers Morgan and God-forbid John Oliver seem like the pinnacle of British intellect?
My Dad once said, "I like what he [Buckley] says, but he should have said it faster and sooner and be done already."
It is an acquired skill to parse out those mumbles, but it is rewarding.
"Are these differences genetic or cultural"
"I would think cultural"
Err (buzzer noise)
They are both. To deny this is to concede reality to make leftists happy. It is an absolute fact some races have superior genetic intelligence, some have superior genetic physical attributes. You can measure this with IQ tests or by taking one fucking glance at the NBA/NFL.
To deny it is to cowtow.
It seems even here you will get downvoted for "wrongthink"
Yeah, what's the average IQ of Somalia again? 60?
That is a really high quality video from nearly 40 years ago.
So yeah, you don't need the word black in the title.
He wasn't "destroyed ". This was a conversation...remember? We used to have them all the time.
Thomas Sowell is a gift from God.
