I haven't condemned Trump for his strong support of Israel, but I don't think Israel is infallible and should be criticized when there is good cause for doing so. With his attempt to withdraw our military from the Middle East, he is being rather even-handed, which I think is deserving of praise.

You could always, you know, read the history of what ended up destroying McCarthy, notably using the threat of prosecuting Lester C. Hunt's son in order to blackmail Hunt into resigning. Hunt ultimately committed suicide.

Communists do not believe in the US Constitution, and are openly working to deny every person their fundamental rights of agency, freedom.
McCarthy didn't deny Communists their right of "free speech". McCarthy wanted to deny them the opportunity to destroy the US Government from within by acts of sabotage and espionage.
McCarthy's alleged "victims" did not have a right to stay employed by US citizens and taxpayers. They did not have a right to hide their beliefs and mislead the public. There is no "right" for a government job or access to state secrets. There is no "right" to not face public backlash for being proven connected to the Communist International.
This was a war. This is still a war. I agree that we must strive to not lose our humanity as we fight, and not take too many shortcuts that will turn us evil. However, we can't ignore the fact that we are under attack, and our opponents already use "any means necessary".
