I personally have become more conservative with age but there's also libs who just get more bitter as they get older. Instead of dealing with their cognitive dissonance by admitting that some right-wing ideas might have a grain of truth in them, they just double down and try to drown it out with more anger.
I'm starting to thinking going from Bernie to waifu material, especially in just a few years is almost as hard as breaking a cocaine addiction. I had to say goodbye to a bunch of friends who were holding me back either through their negativity or victimhood and I don't think it was easy for her either.
A lot of leftists are non-religious (I don't want to bash non-religious people since one of my college roommates was non-religious but also supported Trump's build the wall policy before I did) and they all claim they're free from religion, but instead they just substitute the chains of religion for the straitjacket of social approval.

This part is insane. I have a vegan hippy friend who is the poster child for privilege. She can't even admit a single thing about conservatism is good, despite I know she supports the ideals of individual liberty but thinks that's still something the left controls. The left used to go up against the crazy religious nuts that ran the right but that's not the right anymore.
They keep paintbrushing us as the boomerservatives from 30yrs ago.
I have other people my age (millennial) that conflate MAGA with boomservative. It shows that they haven't ventured outside of their echo chamber enough and make generalizations that don't match up with reality. That type of conflation/assumption pattern has become a personality trait for them.
About the "chains of religion" - consider this: Life as a human is based on various necessities, and actions have advantages and disadvantages - one factor being short-term and long-term benefits. Christianity recognizes this - the chain is existence itself, not religion. Religion is, on a larger scale, a guide, a helper - it is condensed wisdom and philosophy expressed in a way accessible to the broad population (via stories and verses) and open for interpretation.
In some sense Christianity is a manual for a better life, taking regard for ethics and let's say philosophically preferential behavior. It does not pretend to be perfect, but sure as hell it's preferable to ZERO guiding at all, which atheism essentially is.
I was an aimless wreck for a large part of my adolescence. That and the lack of a father made it worse. You fall down so many times and lose hope.
Christian now. Grew up and got back up fast.
One of my favourite atheists said "They say science offers no moral guidance, and thats true."
He did back that up with "But it offers a perspective from which even a single mayfly becomes a wonder.", however most of these obnoxious atheists you see today dont use any perspective.
Ironically if you use that perspective, you find yourself coming to the same conclusions as religion.
After we elected GEOTUS the first time. I sat down and wrote a list of asshat friends vs good friends, inspired by how shitty they had all been during election while I endured years of their lefty bs without verbally assaulting them.
Every "friend" ended up in asshat category. So I dumped them all! They were all holdovers from high school and early adulthood. I grew up. The only real Neverland was where kids were raped by a nose-less popstar.
Now I am happily married, have since earned a CS bachelor's and am almost done with Software Engineering Masters. I have also moved further south, which I have dreamt of for years!
You too can improve your life, by cutting out shitty people and their nonsense.
Fun fact. While I have been winning. Most of those people have tumbled to all time lows in their life, because they are self hating anti-Americans, too drunk on Marxist Kool aid to fix their broken little lives.

Exactly. They are cultists, brainwashed to fear the religious instead of demons.

I am a 100% atheist btw.
Former atheist and pagan here.
