Unless it's an N95 mask, it's pointless. You go ahead and breathe through a filthy cloth which is collecting bacteria.
Edit: Apparently N95 isn't effective either. I read the studies on mask efficacy and neither surgical nor N95 masks had a measurable effect on viral spread.

Unless its a tank of air that isn't exposed in anyway to the outside, it's pointless.
People have a REAL struggle with scale once things get very large or very small.
Viruses are on the small side, if you want to stop a virus from going through a material its going to be very difficult to also push air through.
