But once you can buy better body armor or weapons with real cash while free players have basically no access to them, fuck it its a complete waste of time unless youre willing to spend $1000s just to rent pixles to be competative.

Star Wars heroes is a great example. $25 gives you maybe a weeks worth of materials. It's just insane. Why are people spending that money?
Some "ftp" mmorpg games charge 25$ for protection to not break the part you already spent 500$ on to get it to level 20 of 30, then the odds go down. You still have only a 5% chance of the weapon levelling successfully with 100$ of mats used... without the protection, you have a 50% break rate. Now start calculating how much fully upgraded gear will cost you including sword, shield, pants, armor, boots, gauntlets and helmet.... l keep my kids away from that bs. I rather they spend 60$ on a console game like BF4 and thats it.
