Everyone considering or hesitant to start home schooling should research the homeschooling support Ron Paul (Rand's father) has set up. Here is a little information from his site:

What do you do to offset the lack of social interaction your kids would have if they attended public school? That's one of the only benefits I see from public schooling. Clubs, sports, after-school activities, plus 12 straight years of constant interaction with children their own age, taking the good with the bad.

People who grow up face to face with others will be socially more apt than those who spend all that time at home, with only family members. No?

Obviously just an anecdotal story but my neighbor was in home schooling for part of the time we were in school and my god were all the kids in her group weird AF. I think private schools are far better than home schooling assuming it's a good private school like my former high school.

Well, if this means anything I didn't properly learn to socialize until after graduating school. School mostly just fucked me up.

And no, I wasn't in some bad neighborhood. Kids are just assholes to kids who read and are mostly quiet.

You're right. I was one of those quiet kids.

Homeschoolers get together every day at community centers and each other’s homes. Parents often take turns teaching different subjects.

You think the community centers will be open and groups will meet?

During a pandemic, depends on how many families are buying into it.

If you can hear what kids are teaching each other, you might be surprised. Imagine your kid who has online access limitations with those who don't. Met a lot of good-meaning parents who are naive on evils of internet or just plain lazy researching the tools they can use to limit access.

These kids raised by the internet will be the biggest influencers in your child's life. Plus the ever increasing bullying of the cool kids.

Subjecting children to their perverse peer group isn't socialization, it's borderline child abuse.

1
Shakakka99 1 point ago +1 / -0

Wait, you're saying kids shouldn't be around other kids their age? Just because those kids aren't homeschooled?

3
golfbrora 3 points ago +3 / -0

Not at all. My grandkids are home schooled, but participate in lots of activities, including youth soccer and baseball.

1
KozyKat 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think that just dumping kids in with kids their own age with teachers who aren't focused on the quality of their social interactions can definitely become abusive. I bring my kids around other kids their age that have shown themselves to be kind and have good social skills. Why would I want them around bullies and brats?

How do you deal with a typical problem where children listen to all adults except for their parents?

What makes you think that your school district is doing anything for your kids?

11
TrumpTrain 11 points ago +11 / -0

Get the thin masks with folds and then cut several small slits in the folds so your child can breathe.

If they make them sanitize their hands infinite times a day and your child comes home with cracks on their hands, go to the news and threaten a lawsuit for child endangerment

Check your state’s online programs. For example Houston ISD and Huntsville ISD have online programs that any Texan can enroll their kids in for free. It retains all the accreditations of a traditional school district so it won’t affect college admissions or cause issues if you go back to your own district later.

Especially if it’s a temporary thing for just this year, they are going to be far more experienced than their home district’s ragtag program

I know there are other programs out there, many of them fine and accredited, but this is just one more option that happens to free and you don’t have to reinvent the wheel by making your own curriculum (which not every parent can do)

That's not a viable option for a lot of people-- And a tutor isn't a cure all. Especially if the kid is in middle school to high school. There are really good teachers out there (better than tutors). And people fail to think about the socialization factor of sports and after-school activities. If you're into an activity, imagine losing your senior year to the fucking flu?

Anyways, this bullshit is an attempt to crush the working class and to put poor kids even further behind. We can't bridge the education gap, because then what would Communists complain about?

If the schools are closed there won't be organized activities- but I'm sure groups of friends will still hang out.

A guy at work has been homeschooling his kids for a while. A few years ago he lamented about a lack of music options, solo instruments were about it. A few other parents at work heard and they started a small band. This year they are going to try a choir because there are many more families homeschooling.

i have no doubt that school officials in your area want to cyber with children

So, the sentient virus will allow for alternating days? Why the fuck don't they just get it over with? The kids are going to get the Flu, one way or another. It's going to come through in September/October and again in February/March. It's like fucking clockwork- are we going to start shutting down the schools until no one is ever sick again?

the_shootist 9 points ago +9 / -0

If this lunacy continues, guess what I’m going to do for my two kids????

You're going to homeschool them. That way they get a better education and you can help defund the schools

8
PewPew_ThaDuK 8 points ago +8 / -0

You have to step up and say your kids need a full time school schedule. That they are resting lregressing and need a proper school year. Looking at the covid cases in Texas, covid is more mild than the flu. Nobody ever stops business for the flu in the past

My only question is why wait to make the decision? They have shown their intentions by pulling away the curtain.

Pioneers decide first. This is permanent damage they are willing to allow happen upon an entire generation of youngsters. Find an alternative to their plan.

I’m considering looking into private schools in my area

It’s going to be hit or miss but it does give you possible alternatives.

Pull them out and enroll them in a qualified and established cyber schooling program or independently homeschool them. Theres soooo many options out there, dont let the public schools get your money for this kind of idiocy. They lose funds when you unenroll your child!

Don't think Catholic Schools are immune from the mask madness. My nephew and niece had to pick up their stuff from their school once the online functions ended and masks were required for everyone, including the kids.

1
Highenergyhotties 1 point ago +1 / -0

FUCK THEM. Make them live in their pain, enroll them in a different virtual school so they lose their tax funding.

The_RedWolf 1 point ago +1 / -0

This is an issue in my baby sister’s district as well. If her district goes online only I told my mom to withdraw her and put her in one of the 5 state approved and free online programs because they are going to be far more experienced than her home district in doing online school work. She can always put her back in when they fully reopen.
