Two ways I see it. One, many nations aren't allowing people from US there, so many of these students would not even be able to head home (and some colleges were opening their residence halls only to international students). It would be a huge burden trying to get those students home, much less if they were able to, and you don't know if they would have internet access where they are from.

On the other hand, this causes more security risks given many internationals from china are sent by government to spy. And many colleges hire them over native students for work positions for research stuff.

So, it balances a bit. But a huge loss/risk for security.

Doesn't matter on the one hand it's logical to send people back, if everything is online anyways, on the other hand it's shit for the students already living in the USA, if they are forced to leave the country for some months, because of shitty politics and decisions from their universities.

I thought it was a bold move, and a good one, but maybe a bridge too far. You've gotta pick your fights and this one may have been difficult to justify since we don't know when the schools will open back up and it's a bit unreasonable to force someone to travel home only to have to come back in a few months.

What he should do, if it's possible with his authority, is to say that any school that remains closed beyond a certain point is no longer eligible for federally backed student loans or grants.
