There are lots of scenarios.
Let's say there is a democrat and a republican candidate for a given office. The republican candidate has an "objectionbable" tweet removed, but the democrat with a similar tweet does not. Twitter can claim that their servers were compromised by hackers, for who knows how long, and that they weren't intentionally interfering with elections.
