Purchase an NFL team? Now?

That's fuckin retarded. The NFL will no longer exist in a few seasons.

The all amount of money that Bezos would need to purchase the Redskins (a few billion) could likely be found in his couch cushions. Being an NFL owner is a desired pet project for the super rich. That's why.

28
AsaNisiMAGA 28 points ago +28 / -0

I agree. It's a vanity thing. Like having a Lambo in your garage that you never drive but show off to your friends.

20
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 20 points ago +20 / -0

And being a NFL owner puts you in the most popular fraternity of the rich. And all billionaires want to be in the coolest fraternity.

17
AsaNisiMAGA 17 points ago +17 / -0

Yepper. And invites and access to swanky boxes are currency in that tier.

25
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 25 points ago +25 / -0

This entire conversation reminds me of the story where Cowboys owner Jerry Jones owned the hottest privilege in all of Texas -- the very limited number of parking spaces under AT&T Stadium in Dallas. These spaces were most coveted among all of the suite owners. And Jerry Jones had 100% control of who gained these privileged parking spaces.

19
AsaNisiMAGA 19 points ago +19 / -0

That's the thing. When one can afford all the fancy cars and watches and luggage and other luxury goods imaginable people still want a way to signal their status and power. Access displays become more important than things.

Guess one way to get your foothold in DC to push for policy you want, and make a presidential bid in 8-12 years?

If true, chalk this up as the official beginning of the Bezos campaign.

22
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 22 points ago +22 / -0

Bezos in 2032? I don't think so. Money can't buy you votes when you have all the charisma of a stone. Just ask Bloomberg.

8
Pedeville 8 points ago +8 / -0

? McCain? Hillary? Biden?

You can call those people alot, but charismatic is not one of them

12
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 12 points ago +12 / -0

And McCain and Hillary lost. And Biden will lose. Charismatic (new and diffetent) candidates like Clinton, Obama and Trump win. And another example would be Bush 43 winning over milquetoast Al "Lockbox" Gore.

This is what liberals and leftist cuck wonks do not understand. Guys like Trump and Clinton, no matter their flaws, command a room. They are tall dudes who have alpha leadership qualities without objectively coming off as total douchebags. That is why they can win huge elections. It is an exceedingly rare soft skill, but when you looked at the DNC clown car during the debates it was obvious none of them had it.

Dubya, the campaigner, didn’t really have it, but my god did he channel it and dig it up from deep after 9/11. Obama had it during the stump speeches but then just somehow was a stiff who tried way too hard to be “cool” once he won.

7
quigonkenny 7 points ago +7 / -0

Obama was a community organizer. His home turf was being out among the rubes people and working them up to do something against authority. Once he became that authority, he was out of his depth.

Trump has been "authority" of one sort or another (boss, father, community leader) his whole life. President was just another variation on the position.

3
bangbus 3 points ago +3 / -0

I hadn’t thought of that, but is an astute observation.

2
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Plus Obama was running against two very uncharismatic republican nominees in McCain and Romney. Quite frankly, both of those candidates needed to have a pulse checked time and again to see if they were moving.

4
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

Completely agree with you regarding Slick Willy. What a difference between spouses! Bill is still loved by Dems everywhere. And Hillary wil forever be loathed.

2
plastic_Strawman 2 points ago +2 / -0

What does it say about a person when you're married to a man that a sizable portion of the electorate believes is a serial sex predator/rapist, and most of them prefer him to you?

1
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

A preference of Slick Willy over Crooked Hillary says a lot. That is, in part, the sentiment that many 2016 voters had in mind when they decided to either stay at home for the Gen Election or to vote for Donald Trump. Bill continues to be liked, while Hillary was never liked. Just think about it. A career politician seeking to become the first female President, and she loses to a real estate mogul/reality TV star who had never run for political office before. Besides Donald Trump's very winnable MAGA ideology, it was a "perfect storm" of lifelong Crooked Hillary corruption, hidden email servers and an unprecedented loathing of the Dem candidate. And she remains oblivious to those electorate feelings about her from four years ago as she still continues to make public statements about the 2016 General Election results. Hillary, you need to understand that people don't want to see you or hear from you again -- it is time to go away and stay away.

2
JudgeWhoAllowsStuff 2 points ago +2 / -0

Bloomberg’s campaign was a money laundering scheme for the DNC/Biden.

6
FckDeSeanJackson 6 points ago +6 / -0

Why? The dude literally has Fuck You money compared to everyone on the planet. You think Bezos has half of the stones of Donald Trump and will give up the most comfortable life of any human that has existed on the Earth ever to eat shit from the American public and media all day and night long?

3
Bramble 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes, because he's a sociopath. More is never enough.

3
Mexicola1976 3 points ago +3 / -0

I don't think he's Bretton James.

3
quigonkenny 3 points ago +3 / -0

There's a certain level of permanence that comes with a position of power that one can't gain simply by possessing power. If Bezos lives out his life as he is now, he'll be basically forgotten within a few decades of his death. Sooner if he somehow loses his current power and wealth before then. But if he ever becomes President, he'll always be known of as a President, even after loses that position, and even if he loses it ignominiously along with all his other power and wealth.

Admins just aren't supposed to be stupid enough to get caught. That's when they get in trouble. Look how everyone treated Kraft after his Massage Adventures got out to the public. He's powerful (read: rich and has info on others) enough that he wasn't kicked out of the boys club, but he and his team weren't shown any deference any more by the league and the refs.

8
RabidZoo 8 points ago +8 / -0

I'm sure it's more prevalent in the upper ranks than anyone would care to believe. They just keep it wrapped up better. Tighter circles. This reeks of politics. We'll see.

28
dookiebot 28 points ago +28 / -0

You need to understand the mind of liberals. They EXPECT minority players to do drugs and assault people. It called the "bigotry of low expectations". It's the same reason they conclude Voter ID is racist. Because they think minorities don't know how to get an ID. Even if it was issued free of charge from the government. Why else do you see ridiculous articles in the news like "Showing up on time is white supremacy" or "Being polite is white supremacy" "Being able to think objectively is white supremacy". When you see those articles and flip it to understand they are saying "Minorities can't show up on time" "Minorities can't be polite" Minorities can't think objectively" then you see the attack isn't just on "white" people, but also minorities, telling them they can't help it they are stupid.

7
lerm4comptroller 7 points ago +7 / -0

I've never understood the whole "bigotry of low expectations" thing. It sounds like a really fancy way of saying "racism."

Worse, if you think white people are intrinsically superior to every other race, even going so far as branding any behavior seen as positive as "white," then that's white supremacy.

... But remember: the parties totally switched, you guys.

5
dookiebot 5 points ago +5 / -0

It is racism. And it's the best case of "systemic" racism they keep saying is the real boogey man. They are the ones peddling it. I like to label it "bigotry of low expectations" because they literally look down on minorities as being unable to live responsibly, dignified, and with purpose. And they feel good thinking that. It's a holy virtue to think like that. And if anyone dares suggest otherwise they all go after them because they cannot tolerate any other opinion on the matter.

4
SHALL_NOT 4 points ago +4 / -0

It’s not so much a “black people acting like thugs, what do you expect?” But more “you are very articulate and it is very impressive you have a college degree.” The difference is that plain old racism is negative while BoLE is unduly positive. BoLE is still generally considered to be a type of racism though.

The WaPo story was released earlier this afternoon, and there are no sexual abuse or drug abuse allegations reported. The two basic findings from the fifteen Redskins female employees were verbal abuse of a sexual nature and exhortation for the females to wear tight clothing to close sales deals. So the fact that there are no frank sexual abuse or drug abuse issues here, is this a relative win for Daniel Snyder? Honestly, I was expecting a lot worse from this WaPo exposé.

2

I'm sure that players involvement is part of this story too. But this Washington Post report will be all about Redskins administrators, including coaching staff. This is not so far-fetched of a story about the Redskins because in 2013, there were multiple reportings about Redskins cheerleaders who were coerced by team representatived to act as escorts and nude models for top sponsors at both domestic and international gatherings.

Those cheerleaders are really weird. It’s more of a hobby they enjoy than a job. The pay is so low that many of them have actual day jobs in addition to practices and game stuff. They can’t live off cheerleading money.

Bc they’re basically volunteers living out some bizarro high school hobby, I wouldn’t imagine any of them would speak up about things.

2
ZombieConstitution 2 points ago +2 / -0

Cheerleading, "professionally" is actually to make connections. Rich and powerful people show up to games, and you could be, what's the term they use in the entertainment business? Spotted? Yo could get invited to take part in big paying gigs like modeling, get to go on tour as a backup dancer for singgers/ rockstars/ rappers/ whatever. Or, you know, the most lucrative job of them all, becoming a mistress to the rich and powerful. Some women play the game well. Others... not so much. And then you get situations like the Skins cheerleading scandal.

3

I live in Southern California and there's some big indian reservations with very successful casinos near the San Diego area, you've got Pala and Pechanga. Well if you go to those casinos, they're fucking beautiful and amazing and the area around those casinos is beautiful and amazing. But if you take the right roads to get to those casinos, and you drive through the actual reservation where American Indians live?

hoooooo boy those people live in fucking squalor. Felt like my Chevy was a time machine driving through that clusterfuck.

New Mexico: holyyyyyy Hell is that a wasteland. Had a very dramatic experience that involved mortal danger. I will never go back to that no mans land.

I was surprised while out west (I’m from SE) how much of the area is like old westerns. The smaller areas scattered in the desert & mountains, where it doesn’t feel like camping but a death march in a nuclear testing zone. Hey...waitaminnit..

3
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

This NFL behavior was tolerated (and even celebrated) in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Read North Dallas Forty by Peter Gent sometime. It is a novel based on the true-life debauchery of the NFL. The novel was one of the first to examine the NFL's hypocrisy regarding drug use. The #MeToo and #TimesUp movements have put this previously-accepted NFL caveman behavior front-and-center now.

9
RichardKimball 9 points ago +9 / -0

Want to bet you could write this exact same story about any team in the NFL?

7
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

Definitely, but hated owners like Jerry Richardson, Bud Adams and Daniel Snyder are always targeted.

5
RichardKimball 5 points ago +5 / -0

Jerry Jones gets a pass, cause even though he's hated, he's more responsible for turning the NFL into a money machine than any other owner.
Example: 20 years ago, hockey jerseys outsold NFL jerseys, cause hockey jerseys were more decorated. All those retarded alternative uniforms were Jerry's idea, and it worked.
NFL consumers, now, in addition to spending insane amounts on seats, spend up to $200 to get a jersey to wear to the games, like they're Tony Romo's bitch girlfriend or something.

4
SixteenBeatsAOne [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

The same pass is applied to Robert Kraft, because he lead many NFL Committees toward enhancing leaguewide owner profitability. Kraft owns a team that consistently cheats to win, even with a Hall of Fame head coach and a top three QB on the roster. And then the fact that Robert Kraft had a couple of oral therapy sessions at a Florida "massage parlor" didn't bring him down either.

As a lifelong Bucs and Arena Football fan, I am very disappointed about Jay Grudens involvement in all of this. Back in the 90's and 2000's he was loved and respected for being a good and decent family man. Now there is talk that he was involved with some pretty nasty stuff in D.C.; there is also a video of him smoking dope and cavorting with some, ahem, "ladies".

Very sad how far he has fallen. I always loved him in Orlando. Always a very personable, down-to-Earth guy. Always had time for Predators fans, would personally answer emails from fans. Hell, one time I called the Orlando Predators front office late one night and somehow got into their voice mail system and just for the hell of it I dialed Jay Grudens extension - and he picked it up! He was working at the office reviewing game film or something and I told him to bench the QB (Shane Stafford). He chuckled and asked if I was willing to play QB for them if he did that.

The moral of the story here is to NEVER go to D.C. unless you have a strong moral compass.

Funny that it works this way. I don't follow sports but I remember a few years ago that an owner of a basketball team who had a black girlfriend, was called out by her as racist and he lost his team just like that. Steve Balmer, worst CEO in history, picked it up. So that's cool.

That depiction was applied to colleges too. Do you remember Colonel Reb at Ole Miss?

To be honest that sounds like the average NFL team

Also rumors that this is Epstein related as well.

That would be an interesting tangent. I could see that as part of the story, will all these rich people involved (?Snyder).

As a former Redskins fan, I'm not totally against this. We've been wanting Snyder to sell ever since he bought the team.

WaPo just dropped the story that from 2006 to 2019, fifteen Redskins female employees detail unwelcome overtures or comments of a sexual nature, and exhortations to wear revealing clothing and flirt with clients to close sales deals. The article details that Daniel Snyder was not among the accused harassers, but the female employees felt that Snyder turned a blind eye toward these occurrences.

Exactly. There have been no accusations of actual physical sexual abuse. And I think the fact that Daniel Snyder is so loathed among other NFL owners, that is the reason that the Redskins have not been able to squash this Washington Post story. Are you telling me that owners who create wealth for the NFL and other owners, like the Cowboys' Jerry Jones and the Patriots' Robert Kraft would not have been able to kill this story? I know the Robert Kraft had his "oral therapy" sessions in Florida exposed, but that was his own doing. A team-wide verbal abuse matter would be easily squashed in a more friendly press environment like Dallas or Boston. And what is the worst thing that could happen to Daniel Snyder here? The fact that he would sell his Redskins to another owner and make a thousand percent on his previous investment in purchasing the Redskins. Gee whiz, I would feel bad for Daniel Snyder and his 1000% return on investment.

The Washington Post story is not yet published. It is likely that it will come out tomorrow.

Football? Oh, the game I play with my family to teach them about teamwork. Didn't realize there was a professional league for it.

This sounds like an attempt at pre-emptive damage control. It was just reported that Daniel Snyder is trying to get out ahead of this story, by hiring a Washington DC law firm to study his team's "culture, policies and allegations of workplace misconduct."
