It's a very good and interesting movie. Would recommend to all pedes. Pay special close attention to the scenes concerning "The Chairman Mao Hour" show, where news orgs literally conspire with terrorists to create fake news.
Sadly, my elderly mother is like this. Has CNN on in the background while she reads NYT and WaPo all day. Recently she said Trump is responsible for thousands of Covid deaths, but couldn’t say how. She also said he’s lied thousands of times, but when I asked for ONE example, she couldn’t give me any. When I reminded her how Obama knowingly lied dozens of times on camera about “keeping your doctor”, she stormed off. TDS is real and it’s sad when it strikes someone you care for.
My mother (she is 83) was doing the same thing when this began. I took her a laptop, got her internet access (using the logic that since she couldn't go shopping to get new magazines and books that she transition over to online reading (nook, fire) and start using the laptop to find her news and entertainment online. Oddly enough, the friends she has chosen to add on Facebook are redpilling her now. I was sort of against getting her into Facebook, because, IMHO, FB sucks but the memes she's seeing on her homepage have been swinging her toward Trump. Getting to watch Trump actually speak rather than watching the media people tell you what you should think of what Trump said is also redpilling her. I knew I was making progress when at the primary voting she said she sure as hell wasn't going to vote for Biden! She voted for Trump last time as she "sure as hell" wasn't going to vote for Hillary. However now, she is starting to become a supporter and now just willing to vote for him because she hates the other choice. Moral to my story... If your parents or grand-parents have fallen into the media trap of hours of repetition of fake news, spend some time teaching them how to get online and work a tablet, a laptop, a desktop, a phone, something that will allow them to escape from the media trap. At 83 I was a bit reluctant to get my mother started but with the lockdown she was willing to try because she didn't have her normal entertainment and reading available. At 83, it took several repetitions until things began to sink in, but after a few weeks, she's surfing the world with the rest of us. If she can do it... your parents and grand-parents can too. It will just take some time and training from you.
