To be fair the career I am in (large events) not even close to reopening. I only have 1 day booked in august. I wish I could go back to work I made more in one day than in a week on unemployment. I need this money.

Same boat, bud. The fiancé and I are both 100% entertainment industry. We’ve been benched since April.

Same with my daughter and her bf. Both in LA. No chance of work. I am worried about the entertainment industry.

If this shit gets extended it’s all over.

People are going to bitch and moan and say that the government is forcing them to go back to work even though they don’t feel safe and that they’re putting their life at risk to make money etc etc. Needs to be a strong message of “the virus is with us but we have to learn to live with it. We have to go back to work, we can’t let the virus defeat us”.

People are congregating much more now than they typically would at work anyway.

Hey, instead of being very separate most of the time, let's huddle together in disease balls then sometimes go interact with other groups, guaranteeing maximum virus spread.

I hate having to work with people that hate to work. They are worce than useless.

I'm starting to come around to the UBI concept and the Inevitibility of people that enjoy being productive setting up are own Independant communities perhaps even a Nation within the Nation

The ruling class will not pay for the UBI as they will be the last group to lower their own standard of living or surrender power... Instead the UBI will be set up like the Payroll tax where regular hard working productive people subsidise the infirm and non-productive...

This will force honest folk to aggrigate into tight-nit communitites and where they can work together informally to provide for the communities needs.. Needs that the Larger government economic systems will no longer be able to provide becouse they will be focused more and more on extracting work resource from dwindling producers to alocate to a growing non productive class of people.. This will rapidly close the living standard gap between those people that work vs those who do not work...

Work will thus become a somewhat Illicit and valuable commodity creating a strong Market demand for Forced/coerced Work AKA Slavery...

Mass Immigration is filling that gap in the Proto UBI system we have now but as actual productive Work in America is Taxed/regulated into ineffectualness the flow of workers will rapidly dry up.. Productive workers will stop comming to America becouse they will have better opertunitites to advance in their own countries...Instead Non-Productive immigration will start in earnest as the people unable and unwilling to work seek to attach themselves to first world teir UBI systems.

My wife doesn't want to go back because she got a taste of being a housewife with a young child. Suddenly female biology kicked in. Whoops.

To be fair, I lost my job due to COVID downsizing on June 9th. I've been collecting unemployment since then while looking for another job. The extra $600 has helped during this time.

I do have a job interview on Monday, though. Here's hoping!

I'm not one of those people who want to stay on unemployment and hoping to extend the $600 weekly payment so I don't have to find another job, but I am one of those unemployed people who wouldn't mind seeing it extended at least for now while I'm actively looking for another job.

Could be a nice work around if you can prove your actively looking for work the 600 is extended, though I suspect trying that would be a nightmare to figure out and run.

Good luck! Get your resume professionally printed out on slightly thicker, heavier paper. It makes it stand out from other resumes and looks a lot more professional. It’s helped me at every job I’ve applied for!

Federal government should NOT continue any additional funds for unemployment. What they should consider is that someone who gets a job, even if it was their old job, but makes less than they were before everything shut down the federal government makes up that difference to a maximum of $15/hr above their new wage. Maybe cap the whole thing at $40/hr max with the federal additional pay. IE someone was making $40/hr, finds a new job at $25/hr, still getting their normal wage.

So say you were in the catering industry making $22/hr. Lets say that business opens back up but because they don't have revenue (customers) they can only pay someone $10/hr until things pick up - the Federal government pays that worker $12/hr for some specified time.

Another example would be someone making $22/hr in the catering industry. That business is not opening back up, but they do go get a job as a cashier making $8/hr. The Federal government would pay that worker $14/hr for a specified period of time to make up the difference.

This way people are being productive in some fashion. People have responsibilities they have to take care. But people are not getting totally screwed.

I think this is a better system than handing out money for nothing and will remove the incentive to not work.

I would love to work. Issue is that I will not make anything near the money I made before with social distancing guidelines.

Tbh if the government will not open the country they need to do something. My wife lost her job, I have a pay cut and jobs in our respective fields are not really doing well since everyone is scared for no reason. We are making about $800 less per week than we were earlier, that really hurts. The process of changing careers is a long one but one we are currently doing. Things either need to open so we can work or we need the help. If it weren't for our savings we would be screwed but we had A LOT saved. I wish people would turn off the news and the government encouraged businesses to thrive. We wouldn't be in this shitty situation. They hate Trump so much they are willing to sacrifice humanity to get rid of him. It's terrible.

I was trying to help my mom find work, cause I get all sorts of posts from zip recruiter. She told me she was better off not working. I was shocked for 1 that she would say that. It made me realize that the gov paying people is going to keep them from actually trying to make a difference.
