Just so you know, 5% is what is forcasted for all retail until the covid is declared gone. So for the rest of the year, 5% is forecasted until Q1 of 2021. Sorry to burst your balloon.
EDIT: if you guys want to appear smart at least do some research. The us commerce department, the people that released these numbers, had no model or clue how to model these numbers for the rest of 2020, so they pulled a random number out of their asses, 5% as a baseline for their models since there are no models or expectations for global pandemics and retail sales. Sure we beat the number, but that number, 5%, is also forecasted for every other quarter until Q1 2021. So we will most likely beat that number from here on out. It’s not rocket science or a foreign language. So, it’s 5% Retail Sales in Q3, 5% Retail Sales in Q4 and 5% Retail Sales in Q1 2021. Do some research before you say im a liberal idiot. You look dumb not knowing how the commerce department is modeling future expectations. For even more reference so you dont go out in public and look like an idiot we were at 18.20 this time last year. So today was not a good YOY result..
I’ve already got curtains picked out (made and based in the USA), a woodworking project to do that’ll require a new tool (based Home Depot), and I can’t wait to buy a nice little Midwest homegrown steak to treat myself.
Just a couple more weeks until I get a paycheck again, and I am SO ready to spend.
Now's a good time. Between releasing the China virus and that leaked drone footage of shaved Uighurs being loaded onto trains, a lot of people are horrified and angry at China. The public support for punishing them is there.
I went HARD on fly fishing and hunting gear, so i hear ya. I'm doing well and anything that puts food on my table I don't consider frivoulous spending. The new guitar I do. Haha.
I have been blessed enough not to lose my income during the last few months. Both my wife and I have been spending more in local businesses than we otherwise would, simply in an effort to keep the local economy going
It helps not spending a hundred bucks on a train pass each month... although thats probably gona come back and bite us when people start riding again and that funding hole needs filled...
There needs to be public statistics about unemployment rates in Democrat cities vs Republican cities in the pandemic. Or even Democrat states vs Republican states. I bet the results would be incredible.
If it wasn't for the fucking Pandemic, Trump would be SO fucking secure.
I just have a hard time, believing that the Chinese didn't do this on purpose. Why exactly NOW. Why exactly fucking now?
conspricay, conschpiraschi, it's just strange that it happened at the PERFECT moment to hurt Trumps chances at a reelection.
But okay, we're here and the Enemies of the US will ALWAYS fuck around. So we need to make the best out of the situation and bring this thing home in the next three months. A LOT can happen and Biden WILL have to present himself to the public at some point, which could hurt them. Economy could and probably WILL recover, which will also help.
I'm just afraid for "the next big thing" like the George Floyd shit, that they can SOMEHOW pin on Trumps and parade it around for fucking months. Since the media belongs to them, there is not much we can do against it.
What we can ALWAYS do, is being repulsed by the leftist media and vote for Trump N-O M-A-T-T-E-R W-H-A-T.
Our local community college holds occasional all-staff meetings to discuss the college's response to COVID, shutdowns, how instruction will happen, etc.
The election came up in the second meeting.
There may have been some justification for the initial short shutdown to produce PPEs and ventilators. At this point, anything less than "open for business" is about the election.
I can't wait to see the people who bitch and moan about Amazon stop buying stuff from there. Put your money where your mouth is and buy local mom and pop.
I am a resident deadmaller who went on a pretty hefty adventure of walking malls & recording video/pictures over the previous month. In my observations, I've noticed quite a few people out & about in even some of the more ailing malls. Holyoke in MA was slammed busy. The Maine Mall in ME was also bustling with people. Wyoming Valley Mall in PA was packed. Westmoreland Mall in PA was also busy with a packed food court. Colonial Park Mall in PA is one of the deader malls I've been to, and that had a good number of people walking around.
Covid or not, people wanna get out & shop. Certain experiences just cannot be emulated by amazon or the internet.
Wolf (PA Governor) mandated that the local malls be closed from mid March through June 26th, until we were in the green phase. In addition to pent up demand, we don't know if Wolf roll us back to yellow or red. Wolf's definition of essential vs non essential business is inconsistent. I could buy junk shoes from Target even during the red phase, but actual shoe and clothing stores were closed for months. My spending was higher in late June/early July, but is an accumulation of purchases like this that I couldn't make during the shutdown.
Yesterday Wolf rolled back restaurants and bars to 25% max indoor, including staff. Many places still haven't opened or are restricting hours and services. This is sort of a yellow-green situation. The mask requirement has been here for months and seems to be permanent. Even if most people are wearing masks, Karen's complain to the local officials to try to get businesses shut down.
Hi All.My first post here.I live in a country where it is mandated to wear masks in public in all provinces. We have a curfew. We have to screen people coming into stores and take down phone numbers and addresses of people sitting down in restaurants.I work in retail.Sales in my mail are down 50 percent. On a good day.I would jump for joy for 5%.
Personally our numbers for June were in the toilet. Instead of selling at our June Fairs---we had zilch sales for the month. Same in March, April, May, and now July. Zilch sales are forecast for August, September, etc... Now events are cancelling out to next spring. None of us can hold on that long. The Outdoor Entertainment Industry is collapsing.
Always Bet On America !!!

Captain Obvious says 7.5 is more than 5.
Just so you know, the entire point of this post is that the actual numbers are better than forecasted...
Math, how does it work?
looks left, looks right, looks down
Lot of pent up demand and retail-therapy. Looking forward to seeing what this economy can do with the USMCA and ChinaIsAsshoe tariffs.
Yup, basically.
I’ve already got curtains picked out (made and based in the USA), a woodworking project to do that’ll require a new tool (based Home Depot), and I can’t wait to buy a nice little Midwest homegrown steak to treat myself.

Fuck home depot. Go to Ace Hardware or Mennards.
Problem I have with Menards is that they don’t cut the wood for me. Home Depot will.
We need to completely cut off China. 100% tariffs on everything.
Now's a good time. Between releasing the China virus and that leaked drone footage of shaved Uighurs being loaded onto trains, a lot of people are horrified and angry at China. The public support for punishing them is there.
Fiancee bought a new cat-tree for the cats from Chewy. "Made in China". Threw that shit in dumpster once I saw the sticker.
I'll make my own.
break down, rebuild using what is more than likely American or Canadian Birch Wood and viola made in America :)
Yep. But will take awhile
It's not just this economy that will thrive, it's the world economy that will stabilize and therefore grow.

Spent $600 on a gun then said f it and bought whatever else I wanted at Dunhams (midwest sporting good chain).
Been patronizing the local restaurants that have pushed back against Whitmer. I consider it a reward for doing their civic duty LOL
I went HARD on fly fishing and hunting gear, so i hear ya. I'm doing well and anything that puts food on my table I don't consider frivoulous spending. The new guitar I do. Haha.
Bitchin. With her working from home more, I needed a decent acoustic so I bought a Hummingbird. She wasn't having it with the Marshall. Cheers to us.

Also, up your contributions to your 401K.
👍👍👍
That's great! Good to hear sales are high in spite of so many rioters trying to take advantage of the five finger discount.
AOC says we need More bread in Nike Boxes.
Masks don't work, but they give consumers the false confidence needed to shop.
You may interchange "rule" with "piss on" as you please.

Yep
What’s good for America is bad for Democrats, so we’ll take it.
Exactly!!!
But, how many children had to die so that this capitalistic regime could release such positive numbers? #WearAMaskOrYou'reARacistBigot
/s, for those of you from Rio Linda
inb4 the person from Rio Linda says "I don't get it"
When I saw this headline in the WSJ the positive stat was immediately followed by “Heres why the virus could slow down growth in the future”...CUCKS
Yep. The Media Manipulation is now even stronger than before.
Yeah but stonks are still down
