I don't hyphenate, either.

I completely reject having anyone refer to me as "African" American.

Jesse Jackson is not my king. He doesn't tell me how to identify.

I have mixed heritage; however, I am just AMERICAN.

Patriotic American.

Yup. I have a black buddy... he was horribly offended by the Democrats kneeling in African attire. His response was “I’m not African, I’m American. What is this pandering bullshit?”.

This. I hope this woke up a lot of black folks.

"Now, some people would say you are just saying that to pander to the black community."

"Is it working?! Hahaha!"

That attire was what the elites that sold their brothers as slaves wore.

Elon Musk is African American.

You're no more African American than I am European American. I also imagine that if your ancestors were in the US prior to the Civil War, then you're probably more American than most white Americans.

My ancestors supposedly came from a country that wasn't around until many decades after the founding of the US: Germany. But I suspect that they actually come from Bavaria or Prussia which were around in the 19th century, but nobody who is American of "German" ancestry actually knows which "German" country they actually came from. Not to mention that at the time many people immigrated, Germany encompassed places that are now Eastern Europe. So some people who identify as of German ancestry aren't actually even really German.

Either way, nobody gives a shit anymore unless you're trying to do heritage stuff. We're all American. No hyphens unless you are trying to distinguish yourself. Or if someone else is trying to put you into a box, like asking what color your skin is or what kind of people you are attracted to or what your voice sounds like.

"Jessie Jackson is not the emperor of black people!"

"That's not he told my dad!"
