They really don't understand how stupid their position is. Imagine this. If all kids stay home, why do they need all the teachers? You can literally have 100k kids watching the same teacher on video. Probably a million... Then pick the best, most exciting teacher and the system flushes all of these teachers. They are stupid.
I've been saying this for years. Why have thousands of teachers regurgitate the same information onto a board. When you could make the lesson taught by the best person to teach it with a bunch of visual learning aids in a video.
I remember I never really got how trigonometric functions generate sine waves until one of my teachers found a gif showing a right triangle moving around inside of a circle to generate a sine wave. Once a teacher discover something like that it needs to be used for everybody.
Then new hire a bunch of what are essentially teaching assistants to work with the kids more one-on-one and ad hoc.
Virtual education does not work for kids. Sure, they can learn a little or a different presentation of material causes it to "click." This was the case of your gif experience. However, most kids, especially young kids, need immediate feedback, movement, and facial expressions to really absorb the content and learn how to apply it. Teaching assistants are currently used in the classroom--many of them do far less than the teacher and rarely interact more than redirecting students to get back on task. I would imagine this would minimize even more when there is no supervising teacher in the room.
Good teachers are on the constant hunt for things to help student understand and then we share! Each year of students is different and we select what activities best meet their needs. No one year or section of a class should be doing 100% the same thing. The good teachers I know do not regurgitate things on a board. My white board has the agenda for the day. Less than 1/3 of my classes are lectures--most are simulations, document analysis, and writing workshops. Virtual education with teaching assistants cannot do that.
I'll gladly keep the money that the cities I live and work in ass rape me for every pay check. With that we would only need one parent working anyways. No need for schools to babysit.
