Here's a question that we all know the answer to - why don't news outlets allow commenting on their stories?

Because people would immediately fact check it.

I know they are considered a publisher and so they control all the content on their sites... But while we're changing the laws for the tech companies (I know that's coming soon. This Twitter slip up, the case that was won against Patreon, Google getting caught in their data scandal... Etc) why can't we change the rules for news companies too.

If you're claiming to be news, you need to allow your users to comment upon your stories.
