That's how benefits came to exist too.

I don't remember the specifics, but the government imposed a wage freeze or something, so the capitalists just found something else to pay their workers with.

And if I'm not mistaken, a big reason why everyone's medical insurance is tied to their jobs is because employers don't pay taxes on benefits, so through your employer is the only way to get tax-free health insurance.

Ted Cruz is trying to combat the latter by pushing a medical insurance savings account that you own, that doesn't get taxed when your employer pays into it, and that you can use to buy any medical insurance you want, which would divorce medical insurance from employers.

Yeah, me neither. But remember his 999 plan? People criticized him that it wouldn't actually lower taxes for a lot of people. It's just like a Republican to act like they're changing something when they're not really.

So I often think, let's take that further. What about a 111 plan instead?
