Backing up your Facebook data is a good idea, but it's not a perfect solution. A lot of the data you could theoretically backup is pretty useless if you can't get back on Facebook anyway. it certainly won't save your Facebook login accounts, either. Also, he should have known better than to trust Facebook, but trusting Facebook not to ban you is different than being a good developer.

If you aren't in tech and don't want to be an entrepreneur, his channel will likely not interest you. However, he's done 3-4 videos that I know about on big tech corruption.
TL;Dr: his channel is worth a look because a few videos are about how corrupt big tech is, but not all videos will interest you if you aren't in tech and don't want to be an entrepreneur.

Revoke their special immunity protections under section 230 and classify them as a publisher of content. They are either the public square where they get immunity as an open platform, or they are a publisher where they are responsible for all content the same way TV stations and print publications are.
The Silicuck Valley alarmists will frame it as "They are getting rid of section 230 the whole internet will die REEE!" No. They would just take the protections under section 230 away from YOU, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, etc. Other companies could still be protected under that act, as long as they don't curate content selectively like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube do.
It has to be done. These companies are abusing the public trust and using the shield of open platform immunity while curating and controlling what is SUPPOSED to be the unfiltered public narrative.
Just as a note, section 230 should only be revoked for companies with a multi-billion dollar market cap whom don't provide an open platform with free-speech protections. Basically, if you get to a certain size, the first amendment applies. However, if you're a small website, 230 is absolutely necessary. Without 230, the silicon valley mafia could shut down free-speech platforms in the US as easily as feeding documents into a shredder. It needs to be used to break up discriminatory public squares, not cancel small communities. This needs to be stressed as Google and Facebook definitely will try to co-opt any legislation to solidify their monopoly rather than what it should be for, which is to break up their monopoly or force them to protect speech.

Everyone should have local backups of anything on the cloud, and then a backup of your backups in case of disk failure. An 8TB WD desktop drive is ~$150. Back up all pictures, print to pdf for blog posts, websites, articles that are super important to you. Don’t trust the cloud to save all your important things, because the cloud is just someone else’s server.
(Tbh, anything on the internet you don’t want to totally disappear you should aim to have a backup of. Even from non-nefarious means, people move on from blogs or websites, and they expire. If something is important, don’t leave it for later.)

I only watch his videos periodically so might not be a complete/correct background.
He initially did videos on CS Career type stuff - learning to code, tips for getting tech jobs, etc.
As he got more popular and his channel took off he kept it going by shifting to more "click bait-y" topics like how he made his money, how to build businesses, etc.
I think one key thing is he was actually working at FB while doing these videos and he got fired for it, but he didn't really care because he was already making tons of money doing other shit.
Recently I think he got into more political and "controversial" topics like pointing out that BLM is a scam. I think he also talked about how affirmative action hurts Asians and shit like that. Basically, facts.
I watched his BLM video. It was very level-headed and centered, in my mind. He was talking about how relative "privilege" is as a concept and how Will Smith's kid certainly has more privilege than some poor white kid. And just the whole slippery slope argument about fairness in general. Seriously just ordinary discussion and debate. I'm in software and I'm seriously troubled by big tech's growing influence and control of speech.

Imagining yourself standing in a public square full of people shouting at the top of your lungs. Not a single person in that square see, or hear or even aware of your existence. You effectively don't exist unless someone starts counting the number of voices and the number of visible people, and realize the mismatch between the two numbers.

YouTube (and other platforms) have several levels of bans
No Ban - You can share in ad revenue and your videos show up in autoplay and feeds
Partial ban - Ads won't show up on your posts and your videos won't show up on autoplay. People will only find you if they explicitly search for you or go to your page.
Shadow Ban - You can see your own posts but nobody else can. Reddit does this, but YouTube doesn't. The only way to find out you are shadow banned is to log in anonymously.
Complete ban - Your account is gone

Facebook also changed my algorithms. I dont see things from people I saw things from three months ago. Sometimes, my news feed ends after a post or two. I havent changed anything but its separated me from people that are on the left or center. The only posts it reliably shows me any more are from a woman I used to work with that is extremely far right - like legitimately far right. Like 'drops N Bombs in public' far right. Im not even following her but it fills my news feed with what she posts.
I have to go to my actual friends and families pages any more to see whats going on. Only a very small percentage of what they post shows up now.
Its scary but also hilariously obvious what Facebook is doing. Its cutting me off from people I could influence and connecting me with cartoonish caricature examples of Trump supporters in an effort to make me think twice about which side I'm on.

I don't know why anyone would not maintain copies of all contacts and media that they enjoy no matter what the platform. You're relying on a service that doesn't give two shits about you or your friends and then you're shocked that it arbitrarily vanishes.

One big lesson here is to never use Facebook, Google, etc. to log into accounts on other sites. I know it's less convenient but it's a lot safer to use different login credentials with every site from a hacking/security perspective as well as a "unpersoning" perspective.
It's just as convenient using the same creds. No good reason for going along with the integration

This is a great reason NOT to use federated login (i.e., logging in with gmail, or facebook to accounts that are not gmail or facebook). If they boot you you loose access to any account where you used federated credentials.
