Sounds like you are a little too deep down the rabbit hole. Greg Abbott has been a great conservative for many years. There is no way that he is taking actions that affect his entire state because he wants to harm a state party convention. That makes zero sense.

They could have kompromat on him.
Or they could have threatened him or his family.
Sometimes good people do bad things because they are being intimidated, extorted, or threatened.
I'm not saying any of this is the case; just suggesting it's a good idea to keep one's eyes open.
