I think "deface" is the wrong word. I'd say they "embellished" the mural.

They’ve ruined so many words at this point for me. I’ll never look at the words “mural,” “protester,” “jogger,” “equality,” “justice,” “racism,” and so many more the same ever again. I need an entirely new vocabulary to replace all of the now meaningless words.
Police arrested a local jogger who was protesting racial inequality by creating an original mural which he hopes brings justice to his cause.
It was believed the owner of the 7-11 originally requested police presence, but after a conversation with the crowd he did not press charges.
It also appears the store was later burnt down in protest by Trump himself in an act of terrorism.
I think I put together the story for cnn correctly.
CNN: We can also report that Trump was seen fleeing the scene with a large quantity of pancakes.

I think the worst word for me is "normal."
Mural is a confusing title for it as it refers to something on (or related to) a wall, and this thing is on the ground. I guess some people refer to graffiti on walls as murals. There at least it is technically correct, as it's on a wall. In this case, they may call it many things, but a mural it is not.
Also it's just words. Murals are usually loftier pieces of art, not something I can do with a plastic stencil and a bucket of paint.

I like how the article writer seems to imply that it’s some sort of outrage when the “mural” (aren’t murals usually pictures? I’d call it a slogan at best) is defaced, when the movement the slogan is in support of is going around defacing anything they can get their hands on and rioting, destroying and looting. If that group can go around doing that why can’t others protest and ruin their shit? I’m sure they’d have a different point of view if they were painting MAGA outside debozo’s mansion, or anywhere else for that matter.

I think it's ridiculous to call it a mural. That implies it has artistic merit. It is just huge graffiti by the Mayor to annoy our president. Normal graffiti usually has at least some real artistic value.
BLM written on the street isn't important and I'm disgusted by the significance some people give to it. I don't care who does what to it or if we just let nature wear it off. Vandalise and deface are absolutely the wrong words. It's common practice with Street art for artists to add to other people's existing work. It's an ever changing scene. It's not like art hung up on a museum.
