It is common for officers to get sued when they are involved in a shooting. That is why qualified immunity is so Important to making law enforcement a viable job.

What is uncommon is that one of the rationales for the lawsuit is that she is a competitive shooter. There was a sheriff’s deputy in Northern CA sued about 15 years ago (wild guess) after a shooting for being a competitive shooter.
